Check out this site...
http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/dict
It will give you just about every obscure and/or common Japanese word you can think of. You can type in romaji, the definitions are romaji, but you can click the romaji to see the kanji, AND you can search either Japanese-English or English-Japanese.

Here's some useful words for describing things:
Interesting: O mo shi ro-i
Sad: Ka na shi-i
Heavy: O mo-i
Light: Ka ru-i
Spicy: Ka ra-i
Long: Na ga-i
Short: Mi ji ka-i
Cute: Ka wa i-i
Big: O o ki-i
Small: Chi-i sa-i
Scary: Ko wa-i
Fast: Ha ya-i
Slow: O so-i
Painful: i ta-i
Dangerous: Abu na-i
Hot: Atsu-i
Cold: Sa mu-i / Tsu me ta-i
Note (1) "A" is pronounced as "Ah"
Note (2) The "i" at the end of the words is pronounced separately, e.g. Painful - i ta-i is pronounced "ee tah ee" and not "eye thai"; Slow - o so-i is pronounced "oh so ee" and not "oh soy".
Hope this helps. =)
