How could someone do that, what did they say? That you spent too much or that you bought cheap storebrand stuff? Either way it's none of their business, I don't think I would care if people commented on what I bought at a store or how much I spent on it, the very thought is so ridiculous... I'd just laugh. Then I don't really care what people say about me anyhow!

I would tell them, calmly and unemotionally, that they deliberately humiliated you in public and ask them what is going on with them to cause them to behave so badly and in public? Throw the ball into their court. Also, whose money was it? If it was yours, then it is certainly none of their business; if they were treating, it is even worse manners-wise.

I would turn to them, look them straight in the eye and tell them: "What I spend on food or anything else is none of your business!!" Unless they are paying your bills, they have no right to speak.

you can only be humiliated if you let yourself be humiliated, because that is an emotion, that's like saying someone can make you mad... only you can let yourself get mad.
