I am trying to find a way to cook a brownie and cookie to make bars out of it. Is there a way I can bake it at the same time and they both cook properly? It will be in a 13x9 pan. I would like have brownie on bottom and cookie on top or reverse, but I dont want it mixed together.

I don't think they would mix if you layered them. Brownies usually take about 40-45 minutes to cook. If you want, try baking the brownie layer for 20 mins. then add the other layer and finish cooking. Chocolate chip cookies take about 10-13 mins., but if you're trying to make bars, they take longer, so another 20 mins. might do! Sounds yummy!

You'd have to mix up the cookie dough and the brownie batter in separate bowls. Press the chocolate chip cookie dough into the bottom of the pan and pour the brownie mixture over the top. Bake it according to the brownie directions, but it will probably take a lot longer to bake. I've never tried it, so you'll have to experiment with the bake time. Use a toothpick in the center to tell when it's done.

Don't forget to grease the pan!
Good luck!

Go to Costco, buy the Krusteaz brand and bake them. That will probably be easier, but here's a recipe if you really want to try it!

They have them together.Brownie Base:
2 cups sugar
1½ cups flour
½ cup baking cocoa
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup vegetable or canola oil
4 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Cookie Dough Topping:
½ cup butter, softened
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons half-and-half
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup flour
Glaze:
1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips
1 tablespoon solid shortening ( I never use this)

Directions
For the base, combine sugar, flour, cocoa and salt in a large bowl.
Add oil, eggs and vanilla, then beat at medium speed for 3 minutes. Pour into greased 9x13 baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
Cool completely before topping with the cookie dough topping.
For cookie dough topping, cream together butter and both sugars.
Add half-and-half and vanilla, mixing together well.
Beat in the flour.
Spread mixture over cooled brownies (this takes time and patience not to tear the brownies as you are spreading the topping over them – I drop by small spoonfuls all over the brownies, and then gently spread it together).
Chill until firm, then frost.
For frosting, melt milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips.
You can add the shortening if desired, but I never do.
Gently spread the melted chocolate over the cookie dough layer.
Chill well to make cutting into squares easier.
No need to keep refrigerated once they are chilled and cut, as refrigeration will dry out the brownies. If you are not serving them within a couple days, I would suggest you freeze them.

(I'm not the author or experimentor, I got the recipe off Mrs Field's Cookie website, but I do have a cookbook with her recipes, and something similar is in it).

Layered Brownie Goodness

Sliced refrigerated cookie dough is baked atop brownie batter, then the treat is layered with a melted caramel mixture, toffee chips, and a melted chocolate chip-peanut butter mixture.

Ingredients:
1 box fudge brownie mix
1 roll of refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough
1 container cream cheese frosting
20 individual caramels, unwrapped
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 package toffee bits
12 ounce package milk chocolate chips 1/2 cup peanut butter

Method
Prepare brownie mix according to package directions; put in a large greased baking dish. Cut up cookie dough and put evenly on top of the brownie batter. Bake according to brownie recipe. After taking the brownie cookie mixture from the oven, let cool all the way. Then put desired amount, up to the whole container, of cream cheese frosting over the cooled cookie batter. In a small saucepan, melt caramels with the cream on low heat until melted well. Drizzle caramel sauce on top of the baked brownie-cookie mixture. Sprinkle with the toffee chips. In another small saucepan melt the chocolate chips with the peanut butter on low heat until melted. Pour on top of the toffee chips. Let cool in the refrigerator for a couple of hours until set. Cut into bars.

Notes: For easier removal of the brownie bars, I always line the baking pan with heavy foil, overlapping the foil over the handles of the dish. That way when you are ready to cut the brownie cookies into bars, take the handles, pull up and they will come out. Just make sure before cutting that the foil is taken down all around the sides. The number of servings depends on how big you cut the bars.

Number of servings: 15-20 servings
