It might be fun to have matchbook cars from the 50's, with Burma-Shave road signs: http://www.fiftiesweb.com/burma1.htm

Or figures of girls wearing poodle skirts and saddle shoes, and boys with DA haircuts, jeans rolled up at the hems, and leather jackets.

Drive-in movies and eateries would also be cute, although I'm not sure how you could make those themes into centerpieces.

Maybe you could find 45 RPM's from the 50's and create something around them. Whoever got to take the centerpieces home would have something to listen to for years to come (I have a collection of 45's from the 50's and 60's -- over 500 -- and I love to listen to them).

Whatever you do, have tons of fun. It sounds like a great idea, and I'm sure your husband's going to love it!

coffin shaped cake, saw this done when I was working in a bakery. And the cake was a hit. Or maybe another custom cake would be in order as that is a mile stone in life.
