I read that,as people are not using net curtains now,the amount of burglaries have gone up.

I, like you, have no firm facts on this issue. I do however know a lot about the way burglars work from my experience of dealing with them and their crimes.

Some of the easiest ways to prevent crime is to not advertise what you've got and to make your home appear occupied when its not.

If you have net curtains that cover the whole of your windows then this prevents people from seeing inside which in turns prevents them seeing what nice items of personal property you have inside your home. It also prevents people from seeing whether your curtains are open or closed so you can keep your curtains closed during the day and leave a light on so it looks like your home is occupied during the hours of darkness if you're out at night as well as during the day.

This is one of the many crime prevention tips that I give people. It may seem obvious to some but it’s surprising how many people don't think of these things.

I would imagine that the statistic has been worked out by comparing the amount of houses with or without net curtains that have been burgled but as I say, I have no firm facts on this.

Someone probably get paid a lot of money to come up with bull***t like that!
It may be true but how is that information gathered????
When plod comes to your house after a burglary does he log down wether you have nets or not! No he dosen't.
Its probably just some fool in the police force with a lot of time on their hands thinking of stuff to justify their job. Or worse still actually wasting tax payers money to conduct surveys like this.

I could believe that. Horizontal venetian blinds are a good deterrant for burglars because they make a lot of noise.
