I have asserted this time and time again. The Christian notion of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice makes a mockery of the term sacrifice. When I let my friend borrow money, and I receive it back when he repays me, then what have a sacrificed? Nothing. In order to truly sacrifice something you must lose it permanently, without the expectation of getting it back. Now let us follow my analogy a bit further. Lets suppose I let my friend borrow the money, and he repays me in interest. Now I have more than I started out with. Not only is this not a sacrifice, but also my lending was actually beneficial to me.
Jesus, dying for the supposed sins of the world, exchanged an existence in this world, with all its hardships, for a life of eternal bliss. Yes, the argument can be made that he originally gave up a life of eternal bliss for torture in his earthly existence, but again this was a temporary state that he knew he would soon be free of, and he was cognizant of the fact that we would return to his heavenly domain. So again, even with that argument, the sacrifice was hardly as substantial as Christians make it out to be.
What makes the forfeiture of ones life for a cause, such a meaningful sacrifice, is because none of us can be certain of an award or an afterlife. Sure, some of us hope for it, but none of us can be certain that there is an afterlife, where we will get back more than we gave. However, if Jesus, really were God, and he knew for CERTAIN that there was a heaven, his sacrifice is essentially a sham.

You have missed the whole point. Being nailed to the cross was not why Jesus was hurt, having his flesh cut, was not what was so painful. Hanging on that cross was a piece of cake compared to what He really suffered. He who was perfect, became sin, your sin, my sin and the sin of everyone who had lived and will ever live. This is what He referred to in the garden when He said, "Father let this cup pass from me, but not my will but yours be done.John 22:42.. He was not fearful for His life, or the torture on the cross. It was that when He became sin, His father could no longer look upon Him. This was the source of his torture.

Jesus left the side of God the father whom he has been in heaven with forever to come to save the people whom he created, the people who have despised and rejected him. He was then betrayed by one of his best friends and murdered by the people he created, when he had commited no crime. And if that wasn't enough, he was murdered by having huge nails driven into his hands and feet and being hung on a cross, and you call that 'a little torture'?

First, you should ask Jesus approximately how little it became. three times only earlier being arrested, he prayed to Jehovah for loopholes. no person jumps on the prospect for torture and extra torture to loss of existence. Over driving his solid experience worry became his choose to do his Father's will and his love of humankind. All his human existence led as much as this sacrifice. Prophecies pointing to him and what he might do are too many to show and he had fulfilled all of them. because of fact the only suitable human on account that Adam, he became the only individual who ought to, together with his sacrifice, purchase back mankind from Adam's unique sin. because of fact of this it became an excellent deal.

Naaa... I wouldn't.
I mean, can you imagine bearing all the sins of the world? Yiuck! Thanks, Jesus, but I don't love everyone like you do.
I'm just satisfied that He bore all of my sins, so I don't have to bear all that torture just to make sure I'd get into Heaven.
After all, it might be painful enough when I die, but I only want my own sins on top of all of that (1 Cor 3:15), so I guess I'm grateful just to get into Heaven if only as a servant.

"The rest of eternity"? Jesus has always existed in heaven. He's God. When we say he gave the ultimate sacrifice it's in reference to the Jewish animal sacrifices. They would slaughter a flawless lamb (or pigeon, or calf, etc) for atonement of sins. But when Jesus gave himself up as a sacrifice, that ended all sacrifices. He paid the price for our sins once and for all. Now we just have to choose whether to accept it or not. :)

I've been wondering about that...jesus is the son of god, his life is pretty ok up until the last few months of his life (or days...whatever). He has to be judged, ridiculed, has to go up a hill carrying a cross, gets stabbed, nailed, thorns, and dies. So, one whole day that is horrible to save all of mankind.
Please don't try to tell me that he suffered more than one of our children in a burn unit, or a woman who has been kidnapped and sold into a sex slave ring...
Peope suffer miserably for YEARS in much more pain than I would think he went through...so I just don't get it.

It was not so much what He did , it was how He did it. Which was with a lot of love . without any whining . Done with a lot of class that i am sure you can only aspire to. Try it sometime. Talk is cheap.

OK just picture yourself up there on that cross! Without Jesus to save you you will die not once but twice first in the flesh and then in the spirit!
Chew on that for awhile
