So I checked out this 1996 Grand Am today, and I like it a lot, but I'm wondering if the price is too high..the car is 3,000$ and he said that he won't accept any less than that because he bought it for 2,600$ and is putting AC in it.
I had a friend check the engine and stuff, and he said that it was ok...I'm going on Monday to test drive it to see if it drives okay. The previous owner was an older lady who purchased it in 2005, the car has 115,XXX miles.
He will accept payments, he wants a couple hundred down and about 50$ every two weeks. Although he said the interest will be 16%, is this bad?
Soo from the above information, can you tell me if the car is worth 3K? Thanks

haha wow 16% this guy not only is a joke he is taking advantage of you. yeah that is definently too high of a price and if he bought it for 2600 why would he expect to get more. adding things like a/c is his lose not yours. that is the biggest rule when it comes to aftermarket. thats why people that put 40,000 dollar systems in a 3000 dollar car still just get a bit over what their car is worth. 115 is a lot for that type of car many problems will be in the future of this car. but if you really are set on getting it bring him 2000 cash and it will be yours trust me.

OKAY THE PRICE IS WAY TOO HIGH TO START OFF WITH.
YOU SAID THAT HE IS PUTTING A/C IN IT SO I WOULD ASSUME THAT HE IS REPAIRING THE A/C?????
THE INTEREST RATE OF 16% IS COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE.
THE VEHICLE IS KNOWN FOR HAVING A LEAKING HEATER CORE AND IF IT HAS THE 3.1 ENGINE IN IT, IT WILL NEED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED BECAUSE IT WILL LEAK BOTH OIL AND ANTIFREEZE, VERY EXPENSIVE JOB.
IF IT HAS THE 2.4 ENGINE IT IS KNOWN FOR RADOM MISS FIRES AND THIS AS WELL CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR.
IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE OFFER HIM $1500.00 TO $2000.00 ONLY AND IF HE TAKES IT, I WOULD FIND AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE TO CHECK IT OUT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.
IF HE DOESNT LIKE YOU OFFER THEN WALK AWAY AND KEEP LOOKING.
SO TO SUM IT UP, IF HE PAID $2600.00 THEN HE GOT RIPPED AND HE IS TRYING TO DO THE SAME TO YOU.

The price is too high, and the car is a piece of crap. Get a Honda or Toyota. It will probably have a major breakdown soon, and is worth maybe $1500 tops. They were not reliable or competitive in their class even when new.

Honestly I don't think so! I recently sold my 2004 grand am for $7,400 and it had 16,000 miles on it and was very clean!
I think that's a little too much for it! How's the interior and the paint? It's really up to you! Go to Kellybluebook.com (I think that's it) and answer the questions about the car. They'll give you a good estimate!

G o to your library and ask to see the " blue book". that is the best book out there to get the true value of a vehicle. Do you know this person?. Sixteen % is a little high. Of course the " mob" would probably charge 25 %

interest rate is kinda high, 10% on a personal loan is more in line. for a 96 is has fair miles, if it runs as good as advertised it is a good price, here in Az you'd probably pay $5,000-$8,000

16% is really high, but on 3,000 dollars its not that much money. go to www.kbb.com to find out what blue book value of that car is.

Google Blue Book and look it up; sounds about right to me though. They are a pretty good car and get decent mileage; one of my daughters has one. If it can stand up to her lead foot it has to be good.
