I am starting up a little store, and I need to know what would be the cheapest barcode scanner I can get. I would also like a magnetic stripe reader to attach to my computer.

You can buy a "Cue Cat" scanner from eBay for about $10. It works but you have to move the scanner across the entire bardcode (as opposed to pulling a trigger and reading the whole code in one shot)
You can build magstripe readers or buy them for about $5 -- writing magstrips is more expensive and complex if you build your own.

Zebras are White with Black Stripes and the pattern of the stripes are not the same on each animal!
