it depends on how fit you are BEFORE your pregnancy. fit people before tend to stay fit through out as well as return to their normal figures soon after giving birth. you're really only supposed to gain 25-30 by month 9 which is composed mostly of 1 baby and amniotic fluid. any more than that is because you were subscribing to the age old "i'm eating for two" myth which is the biggest myth ever told to women. you really shouldn't be eating much more than you ussually eat and you should always keep it healthy, for the benefit of the baby's lifelong health as well as for you to keep in shape. there is a great magazine that will help you through this time if you are planning on having a baby sometime in the near future called "fit pregnancy" there is also a website called fitbaby.com that can lend you a lot of support in this area as well. AND...many women who before, during and after claim that as they continue their workouts after the birth they are able to achieve a level of fitness they'd never been able to achieve previous to that time in their life. this is most likely because you're body is burning lots of fuel keeping up after baby as well as producing milk to feed baby. really, all you have to do is prevent yourself from eating cakes, cookies, chips and candies when you get those crazy pregnancy cravings and DO NOT subscribe to the "i'm eating for two" nonsense! oh, and of course...KEEP ACTIVE! :)

It is not that hard to maintain your weight while pregnant at something that is easily recoverable from once you've finished the pregnancy. Size of the baby, genetics, has alot to do with exactly how much you weigh. However, if you've been athletic or active up until your pregnancy, usually there won't be much you can't continue. Your doctor or midwife can help you with better exact regime ideas for you personally. Stretching, walking and swimming are all things that are excellent to help. Eat sensibly and don't use being preggers to be the excuse for that third helping of chocolate mousse and you'll do great! :) Good luck!

Of course you can stay in shape. It's highly recommended to exercise, walking, swimming, other low aerobic activivities. As far as gaining weight, medical science says to gain between 25 to 35 lbs.

Don't look at other people to compare your body with, especially celebrities. They may wear things that cover themselves up, or the pictures are angled a certain way, it's called trick photography! They are in the business of image, not health!

Are you pregnant now, or are you thinking about it, or are you talking about the far off future? Believe me, when you are ready to get pregnant, or old enough too, your mindset will be different, that "how will I look during pregnancy", to "I want the baby to be healthy."

Like everything else, everybody is different. Don't judge yourself by someone else. The shape you are in when you get pregnant determines what happens from that point. If you are an overweight couch potato, then pregnancy is not the best time to start running marathons or other strenuous exercise routines. But if you are healthy and fit at the time, the usually is no reason you can't continue with reasonable activity with doctor's approval.

It's normal to gain anywhere from 40-60 lbs when you're pregnant. It's healthy for the baby. You can do water exercises or light exercise designed for women but you have to be careful. When you have a baby your body will never be the same no matter what you do. So don't even expect that with exercise.

I gained only 5 lbs. during pregnancy and my daughter weighed 6 at birth. I worked up until the day before I had her and at my job I walked 3 flights of stairs 18 times every day. The baby was healthy and the excersize mad labor and delivery so much easier!
