Mexicans claim that they have a lot of kids even if they cannot afford them because birth control is against their religion. Does this mean that Mexicans never use birth control? If so, each woman would have about 20 kids.

Catholicism discourages birth control. My problem is that illegal immigrants come here and keep having babies creating a huge strain on our economy. While we are giving these illegals free public assistance designed to benefit American citizens, we should be supplying them with birth control to stop the rampant reproduction.

There are practical limits to how many children a single woman can produce even without birth control. For one thing, there's the 9 month pregnancy. That pretty much takes you down to one kid a year. After your 20s, fertility starts to decline. Also, the more kids you have, the more difficult it is to find the time and privacy to work on having more.

In addition to that, religions like Catholicism that have problems with birth control also often have alternatives. They're not that effective compared to birth control, but they'd cut down on the sheer number of kids. And, of course, not everyone in a predominantly Catholic country is so devout as all that...

I don't think religion has much to do with having a large family.
I live in Hungary and most people are Catholic. Most families have no more than three kids and many have only one child.
The education is very high over here, I believe that is an important factor.
Also housing is hard to come by.Most people live in very small apt. with the parents sleeping in the living room on a sofa bed.
I come from a large fa mily and we were not catholic. It is really up to what people value. Money and comfort or kids.

Umm...no. Did every woman have 20 kids before birth control was invented?

Thinking is good.

If we're talking the Catholic Religion, they advocate the rhythm method. Modern day Catholics can't blame religion for having too many kids.

Since we already know they don't have 20 kids, is there a point to this question?
