By the age of two most Labs settle down. I can't speak for the Pit Bull aspect but I know that Labs will play with anything and, as my nephew (a vet) says, no dog will ever starve - they'll eat anything. So, that being said, you have work to do. Make sure that everything is where it can't be reached - and dogs can reach places you think are out of reach. Then spray the rest with sour apple spray. You may be leaving him alone for too long during the day. Maybe getting a dog walker for a 1/2 hour a day would help.

Maybe he is part basset? LOL. I put a bell on my bad boy so I know where he is and if it sounds like trouble. I have baby gates as well. If he isnt I would crate train him so he doesnt get hurt when your not at home. Taking my furkids for long walks really helps lesson their curiosity and likeliness to get into trouble in the house. Try a some mind challenging toys, or a kong, he should love that sort of thing!
edit-If your a lab lover, read Marley and ME! You'll love it and it will make your guy look like an angel!

first make sure he has plenty of exercise, then you may want to buy a very large crate or pen to keep him in while you are away. 2 yrs old is still young for a lab so be patient. But what is he doing on the counters ? Treat him like a child that does not know better- teach them and restrict them from this unwanted behavior while you aren't home. That way it will give him less oppurtunities to get into trouble.

Labs and goldens are notorious for eating bad things. My goldens have gotten into trouble eating rocks (how the heck am I supposed to keep them away from rocks all the time?). They try and do it right in front of me when they've had plenty of exercise, so its not necessarily an anxiety thing.
My best advice is to make sure dangerous items are all put away and cut off access to the kitchen when you are gone. He may need a secure dog run or a room where he can't get into trouble when you are gone. Provide lots of suitable chew toys.

I completely agree, its a separation issue. He is lonely when your away and the anxiety is too much for him. Don't rush out and get another dog to keep him company! lol Then both of them will be tearing up your house (i learned that one from experience lol) Get a dog cage, something that he can go into while your away from the house. Pack it with a nice blanket and his chew toy, put a bowl of food and water in there for him. After a few weeks, leave him out a day, see if it continues. If it does, back to the cage for a bit longer. Dogs grow out of the anxiety! Mine did FINALLY! lol Good luck!

I wouldn't say it was a seperation issue i would say that he was bored and is trying to find a way to occupy himself, get him something that will keep his attention, maybe a squeky toy. Or you could even crate train him so he will think that the crate is a good place to go when you are away out at work and then he can't get himself into any bother it's a win, win situation. Good luck with that and i hope he is alright.

while ur at work i think you should put him in the garden with plenty of water and some food with a few chew toys. He probably just wants something to chew. My dogs lyk that 2. Shes a lab and she will chew ANYTHING no matter how dangerous!
♥hope I helped♥

My dog chewed on some strange things as well. All you have to do is keep everything dangerous out of his reach and he will be fine. If you dont he could end up eating something that will hur him and you dont want that to happen. Try buying him some chew toys. That should keep him busy and he wont chew on strange objects.

Rent Cesar Milan's The Dog Whisperer DVD's...all the answers are there, and you will see dogs just like yours acting the same way! Call around to local video stores and see if you can find the DVD's. The secret is to walk the dog 3 times a day so he is tired and calm.

I know someone who has a dog like this, he has eaten Christmas lights and had to have surgery to remove socks from his stomach. I dont know how to stop the dog, but if he does eat things like glass and chicken bones, you arent supposed to make them throw up, you have to feed the dog bread. I think it acts like a cushion so they can pass it rather than throwing it up and making it cut them again.
