Yes, Jesus is the way, the pavement, the lane markers. Walk over him, go the way he always went, do the kind of things that he did. Some people think "must come through me" means Jesus is some kind of club bouncer, but that's just messed up. The "Way" is clear and it doesn't require a password, just the right attitude. As the book says, not everyone who cries, "Lord, Lord", gets in, only the ones who do the work, and that doesn't mean preaching.

Here is the reasoning:
God is just, thus sins cannot go unpunished or be forgiven.
In order for God to "forgive" the sin of one person, the satisfaction of His justice must be maintained. In other words, the sin must be paid for. Now, the person can pay for their own sins...by going to hell as just punishment...
But, God (in His mercy and grace) provided a means for even sinful people (like you and me) to be 'saved'...or forgiven for their sins - without God being declared "unjust".
His means for doing this was by becoming man - Jesus - and accepting punishment for the sins of those who believe in Him.
God accepts this sacrifice, but He accepts no other sacrifice.
Thus, a person can either "pay" for their own sins (and go to hell), or believe in and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior (and so be forgiven and saved from the penalty, power,and presence of sin).
No other religion or "way" is able to deal with "sin" before God. And He alone is judge and has made it thus so...

And, by the way, Jesus was almost stoned for calling Himself "I AM"...see John 8:58...
And later, this is the reason the Jewish leaders encouraged the Romans to crucify Him - for what they considered to be blasphemy.
...but no one would EVER think you were God, so you are safe...
