towlieban - you miss my point, I probably know as much about the trinity, and the debates that have raged about it through the ages, as even your esteemed self.
I was in no doubt that human action is supposedly moved by the Holy Spirit, my point was how come the holy spirit got it so right in the production of the Bible.

This is not a simple question to answer. In general many different revisions of scripture have been used throughout time. The Christian direction of this question implies that the answer should be focused on the Christian tradition, which is most widely accepted as what we know as the Bible. This includes both the old and the new testaments. The old testament is thought to have been compiled and canonized at an event called the Council of Jamnia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Jamnia
There is debate about the actual details of this event, however it was about this time that the traditionally used books in the old testament were canonized, or declared official. The version of this canon that came forth for compilation within the bible was a Greek translation known as the Septuagint that is the basis for the Old Testament part of the Bible.
The New Testament part of the Bible is often misunderstood. The books in the New Testament part of the Bible are a compilation of writings and epistles collected from those who were official leaders of the Church that Jesus established with his Apostles. As the Apostles were killed off, the members of this church had differences in interpretation or understanding of certain doctrines. Different groups of the early Saints got together to contend for their beliefs and held councils. Many of these writings or books were considered canonized scriptures as early as 160 years after the birth of Christ, however many councils were held to define the books that were to make up the New Testament through the 400s. It should be noted that the books in the New Testament are not in cronological order, and the New Testament is not defined by any living Apostle that was ordained by Christ himself since the books and the order wasn't decided on for many years after all of their deaths. This should temper some Christian's claims that the Bible is set and that is the way it was given by Christ and His Apostles. The statement about adding or removing in the book of Revelations was written long before the book compilation of these holy writings. The Bible contains books that are truly inspired writings, however some people's claims are misguided and show ignorance to the facts of how the Bible was ultimately compiled.
The subquestion in the question is whether God directed the actions that brought the Bible together. Here I can only pose my opinions based on my understanding. Yes, God inspired human action to ensure that these holy writings would make it to the hands of those who sincerely seek Him. He also will guide us as we ask Him how to understand the words He has given us. He has inspired the writers of the Biblical works to record His words and I believe that he must still inspire his children to understand what he wants us to know and will yet guide us as He has in the past, quietly and with a still, small voice. There is guidance and truth out there, and those with a sincere desire to find it will do so as they ask Him to show the way and get personal confirmation of those things they find.

Here are two verses and their summary's that should answer that question, look them up:
2 Peter 1:21 - Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture is inspired by God.

They prayed and asked because they needed to know which ones were false. For false ones were made.
The Catholic Church has removed lines from the Bible to get people to do what they want them to. Even the Second Commandment they removed. It says that God is a very jealous God and we are to pray to NO ONE but God! Not to pray to anyone in the sky/heaven, on the land, or in the water. The Catholic church tries to get it people to pray to dead people they call saints and even their dead relitives. Even though the Bible says we will all be in the ground until Jesus returns.
The Prodastant Bible has had the books of the Bible that do not speak of God in them out. But they can be bought.
King James was a Catholic that did not want the Bible in English, in England. But he could not stop them from being smuggled in. So he ordered his own and ordered 400 words to be changed to totaly different meanings. Like where all other translated Bibles have "wild ox" or "wild oxen", king James put "Unicorns" in his bible. He also ordered that no extra infomation be put at the bottom of the pages. So KJB lovers are ones that don't want the TRUTH.
You would be best with modern Bibles that have not hundreds of more words that meanings have changed too.
(If any words are mis spelled; it is because the spell check is not working.)

I believe God was being it. Think about how important the bible would be to God's people - of course Satan would make as many alternate versions as books as possible to try to prevent the truth to reaching the people in book form. But any true bible student will be able to look at the bible and see the harmony from Genesis to Revelations

There is only one bible which those who adhere to it alone say is the inerrant and infallible and pure word of God. That is the King James bible.
God has unequivocably directed human action for all of human history.

It was the Roman Catholic Church.
Protestants will try to say otherwise, but it is a historical fact that the Catholic Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, decided which books were Canonical.
Peace be with you.

I feel like this question is sarcastic and designed to try to trap Christians.
It was God, acting with the Holy Spirit to influence and quide people.
