I have the same fear as you. If I see a spider, I sweat, shake, cry even. I have a feeling that I want to remove it but I can't so I run. This is known as the fight or flight response. Every thing living in the world has this response. It is actually meant to be a good thing because it prepares us to be cautious if we are in danger. I guess a phobia is when you have this feeling over something whether it's a bird, going out or talking in public. Normally a phobia is of something that will cause you no harm. Why not try hypnotherapy? I am thinking about it as it has high success rates. In the meantime, try to explain to your mum that your phobia is intense and therefore you would like her help and understanding. Good luck x

Aw, daddy long legs aren't dangerous. They can't even bite through skin. They are harmless. and cute. They aren't even spiders technically. But I hate spders too, like black widows . Now, they're creepy.
A phobia is when you have a irrational fear of something and and are unable reason things out. I have lots of phobias so, I know what you're going through. It sucks because I know my fears are irrational but I can't help it.

You have a phobia of insects that invades your privacy especially long legged insects like crane flies that come about late august-september. They are attracted to light after dark and fly through windows and doors if left open. You would be right to have doors shut and so should I.

The literal dictionary definition of the term phobia is:
a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it.
Fearing something means you will often display avoidant behaviour, whereby you will do your upmost to avoid the situation so that you never actually have to face it. I have social anxiety which is also referred to as social phobia and I avoid social situations which ultimately means although in the short term I do not have to face the one thing that I fear the most, I also end up conjuring up ideas about how terrible it is when the reality is not the same-avoiding things makes them harder to deal with. Your fear to many would seem irrational-the same as mine would to many but its often a phsychological problem and the best way to deal with it is to face it head on and talk about it.
Your fear is nothing to be ashamed of, we all have things that we don't like and try to avoid-its when this avoidant behaviour starts to dictate what you do on a daily basis that it gets out of hand like mine, yours however will probably be easily cured as daddy long legs do not hurt us and perhaps trying to stay in the room with them and being up close with them you will see that they are not somthing you need to worry about. Good luck xxx

Being irrationally afraid of something. But don't confuse fear with hate. It's reasonable to hate daddy-long-legs, but irrational to be afraid of them.

Persistant and obsessive avoidance of something.
I have a fear of enclosed spaces. I find it difficult to use lifts and hate small spaces so I avoid them. I should confront it head on really, best way to cure it so I'm told.

If you feel that it will bite you then that is a phobia, if you just dont like the look of it then its just that you dont like them.
