US lost the war in Vietnam because we were backing a bunch of corrupt dictators, fighting a war no one wanted to have in a country whose people didn't want us there.

The soldiers that fought didn't lose the war. It became an unpopular and unsupported action. It cost a loss of many lives on both sides. America and its allies that helped fight in Nam. If we were allowed to do the job without political and home pressure it might have been different. The same thing is happening now. Iraq is and unfavored action, Pressure is being put on to bring the troops home. If it is done too soon all the lives lost over there will be for nothing because the country will revert back to its former self in time.

Try reading some interviews that Gen Vo Nguyen Giap made after it was all over. As the man who planned Dien Bien Phu and the 68 TET Offensive admitted his forces were all but useless by late 1967. An entire generation of young men had been lost by then. They got their butts kicked hard losing 50,000 to the allied loss of 6000 in TET. A great deal of the VC were killed (by locals) after revealing themselves as VC. The American press (Walter Cronkite) called it a loss. So we gave up due to a lack of will.

John Kerry
All Protesters
US Press
Lack of will by the American People
All get credit for helping the North by the North.

Because the Congress cut off all funding of the war in the Autumn of 1974. Saigon fell to North Vietnamese regular forces on April 25, 1975.

There is no real definitive answer. Some people are going to say the U.S. lost, Some are going to say the U.S. won, Some are going to say the U.S. lost politicly but won militarily, and so on and so on. Because we didnt have a formal declaration of war, its a very opinionated subject.

Because Yanks are a bunch of trigger happy "Lets kick some butt, Dude" cowboys with no respect for other cultures.
What u should have been asking was, why where Yanks there in the first place and got about 2 million people killed!
Guess the Iraqis would like to ask the same question!!
When things get tough the Yanks always fall apart, discipline goes as was shown in Vietnam and they were killing their own officers and half of them were drugged up and stoned. Best thing they can do is stay at home and the rest of the world be better off!

It was never about freedom except to protect businesses.
The Pentagon Papers would tell the truth EXCEPT they are still secret.
The president was corrupt enough that it gave the communist just enough to convince enough South Vietnamese to join the 'Viet Cong" and US Foreign Policy did not help.
The lies about the Tonkin Gulf attack on the US Navy was fabricated by Democrats.

It was mainly because of the media! They don't know what secrets are for.
