most routers use a syslog server or snmp for that

It's called start reading the bloody books and answer an exam question yourself for a change. If you don't plan on doing that stop paying money to Open University and admit your intellect level is way way too low to work on an IT Degree ... May I suggest a degree in picking bread crumbles with your toes instead ?

To do that you would need the functionality built into the router or you would need to capture on the WAN interface of the router.
