Would I do it? Heck no! I spent a year of my life making the lace!
On the other hand, if others really want to do it, who am I to say no? You buy the dress, it's yours to do with as you please up to and including burning it.
But if I wanted to be rid of my wedding gown after the wedding, I'd have donated it to a charity, such as one that offers wedding gowns to brides who can't afford them, or the one I heard of recently that remakes wedding gowns into burial dresses for babies whose families can't afford something nice.
Why trash things when you can recycle them in a good cause? And giving some small modicum of comfort to someone who has lost a child strikes me as a damn good reason to recycle.

I have heard of this. At first I thought it was very bizzare and still don't really understand why you would want to Burn your wedding dress just after getting married. It seems like anyone willing to do that is trashing their wedding vows or you didn't take your wedding day seriously or something. But we have decided to go away and get married on the beach infront of the ocean and the idea of posing for pictures in the water in my wedding dress seems fun. I am not sure if I am going to do it yet and it is not going to be an expensive dress (it is both of our second marriage so going simple). But burning the dress just sounds terrible. Maybe even being on horseback wouldn't be a bad idea. Afterall, your never going to wear the dress again so why not have fun in it and get some nice pictures.

I even have seen extremely some trash the dress photos and that i like it. i might choose to do it for my wedding ceremony if i'm getting a solid photographer and understand that it wasn't a waste to waste my dress. I in trouble-free terms paid $20 for my dress at a J. team outlet sale nevertheless so possibly i might sense lots in a different way if I had an costly dress. you will get lots extra use out of the TTD pictures than you should out of the rather dress.

I want to do it. I spent $600 on my wedding dress and it wasn't the gown of my dreams - it was far from it. It was the only thing that fit halfway right. I wish I could go back and find a new dress that I loved and re-do the wedding! Also, I was a lot heavier on my wedding day.
My wedding dress doesn't hold a lot of fond memories for me, so I'm not that attached to it as most brides are to theirs.
So, trashing my dress is a way for me to get some pictures in the dress with me being thinner, and maybe I'll finally love the dress when I see more artistic pictures of me in it. Plus, trash the dress pictures fit my personality. I really want to do some pics in mud. I saw a few trash pics of the bride in mud and I thought they looked haute couture and kind of sexy!

I would maybe get some nice beach pics and things like that that you cant do on the wedding day because you dont want to be dirty on the day. Some of the photos are beautiful so why not have a go and do it.......a photo of the bride splashing in the ocean in her dress could be gorgeous.
But I would never destroy the dress like setting fire to it or anything like that. I would then get it dry cleaned and if I didnt want to keep it, I would donate it to a charity store.

I love it! I haven't done it (yet) because I'm not quite ready to let go of my dress, but... let's be honest... by the time I have a daughter old enough to get married, my dress will be completely out of style (I was offered both my mom's and grandma's wedding dress for my wedding, but they were no longer in style at ALL.) What a lot of people on here don't seem to understand is that this is done while the bride is WEARING the dress. She gets artistic pictures taken in the ocean or sand while wearing her dress. They are more pictures of her in the dress she loves, but they're not wedding pics, so she can roll in the grass, jump in the ocean, etc. (I've never heard of anyone burning them). You're never going to wear it again... who cares if you ruin it?

I had never heard of this!!! Who wants to set *any* clothing on fire while wearing it?!
Checked out the trashthedress.com, I guess you get some kind of cute shots. But the one where the girl is lying on the big felled tree and her dress is trailing in the yellow dirty water? Oh god no.
And not everybody really trashed their dress on that site, one bride seemed to be wandering around Atlantic City, lost and alone. Was actually kind of depressing!
I suppose if you have a 100 buck dress you got mass produced from David's Bridal or eBay, you can do as you please. Mine cost several hundred and I shudder to think about the hem getting dirty! But it is not a "jump in the ocean or pool" kind of dress, and I am not that kind of girl.
The answer about charitable donation is also true. If you don't want to keep it, give it away.
Frankly I will be quite happy to "suffocate it in plastic" and keep it forever. But that is probably b/c I keep EVERYTHING. ;P

I have a few friends that are getting married that really want to do it. I geuss it is supposed to be really artistic and the pictures usually come out nice, i saw some where a women did some paintings in her dress and the paint was everywhere, it was very pretty. I did'nt do it but i got married in the virgin islands on the beach anyways so it ended up getting dirty anyways, but what else can you do with it afterwards? Might as well huh?

I think it might be fun! I don't know if I'd actually do something to the dress that wouldn't be able to be dry cleaned. there was a woman on the knot that did this and she went into a pond, after they took their pictures she had the dress dry cleaned it was good as new.

I think its kinda cool- the pics I've seen are very artistic and classy- the bride was underwater- looked very "Vogue"
I don't think I'd personally do it, I think I want to save my dress.
