Another question. Do blue ray players such as the PS3 or the Sony stand alone ones also make high quality CD players? I understand that some of the Blue ray players are compatible with CD-ROM and SACD. But do they cause a degradation in the quality of the audio sound, if I would use them to play CD's and SACD's?

Hi.One of the best CD Players on the market at the moment is the Cambridge Audio Azur 740C .Have a look at the link below. Cambridge is a well respected manufacturer of quality audio products from England and have been around for more than 30 years.

EDIT....It is not possible to tell in advance whether Blu-ray Players decode CDs and SACDs satisfactorily without trying some out and listening to their sound quality.Actually you should listen to the normal CD Players first before you purchase one.

EDIT 2...Don't buy the NAD - 525BEE.People have had trouble with this model regarding the CD tray mechanism.

EDIT 3 ..mike is correct about vinyl records .They are far superior to CD if you have the right equipment!

Cd players are always a big debate to which provides a better sound. A cheap one or more expensive unit

For a $1000 I would look at the following:

Arcam CD73, Rega Apollo or Cambridge Audio Azur 740C.

I own the Arcam, but all are very close sound wise. The Apollo is considered the best right now under $1100 to many audiophiles..
