Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that starts in the pigment-producing skin cells called melanocytes. These cells become abnormal, grow uncontrollably, and aggressively invade surrounding tissues.
Although melanoma is less common than other types of skin cancer, it is the most serious. Fortunately, melanoma may be cured if caught and treated in its early stages when it affects only the skin. In more advanced stages, it may spread, or metastasize, through the blood or lymph system to other organs and bones, making cure less likely.
If you have any suspecious mark go to the doctor as soon is possible!

Melanoma is a very serious skin cancer. It can occur when you are exposed to too much sunlight or ultraviolet light such as tanning. That is why it is recommended to use sunblock lotion and limit your time in direct and indirect sunlight. This cancer effects people differently so some may have brown spots, others just develop new moles on their body, and others notice that pre-existing moles begin to change color and shape. If you suspect that you may have melanoma, you need to consult with your practitioner to get the proper diagnosis. Treatment is pretty much on the same lines as many other cancers. That includes surgery to remove the tumor followed by skin therapy and chemotherapy and or radiation to make sure it doesn't come back. Of course the sooner you are diagnosed, the better chance you have with treatment and survival. Once the cancer spreads from the original infection point, it becomes more difficult to treat.
Do not sleep on this, if you think you have melanoma, call your practitioner right away.

What Is Melanoma?
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer.
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. It begins in skin cells called melanocytes.
Melanocytes are the cells that make melanin, which gives skin its color. Melanin also protects the deeper layers of the skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
When people spend time in the sunlight, the melanocytes make more melanin and cause the skin to tan. This also happens when skin is exposed to other forms of ultraviolet light (such as in a tanning booth). If the skin receives too much ultraviolet light, the melanocytes may begin to grow abnormally and become cancerous. This condition is called melanoma.
How and where does melanoma appear?
The first sign of melanoma is often a change in the size, shape, or color of a mole. But melanoma can also appear on the body as a new mole.
In men, melanoma most often shows up:
on the upper body, between the shoulders and hips
on the head and neck
In women, melanoma often develops on the lower legs.
In dark-skinned people, melanoma often appears:
under the fingernails or toenails
on the palms of the hands
on the soles of the feet
Although these are the most common places on the body for melanomas to appear, they can appear anywhere on the skin. That's why it is important to always examine your skin to check for new moles or changes in moles.
With early diagnosis and treatment, the chances of recovery are very good.
