You should walk toward oncoming traffic..... or, the left side when there is no sidewalk. This is so you can have a visual of potentially harmful situations.

Please walk facing oncomming traffic that way you can jump out of the way. And never take your eyes off of traffic. Bicycles use the traffic lane and obey traffic laws.

walk facing traffic. This will allow you to look out for hazards. Also, don't look directly into oncoming cars headlights, look just to the right.
