My brother is getting married in September. I have a reallly nice red dress that I wore when I was a bridesmaid at someone else's wedding ( long, but I would have it cut short)
My sister and I are doing the music for the wedding, so we will be at the front of the church. Would wearing a bright red dress be out of line? ( I think the bridesmaids are wearing brown/copper)

Why upstage the bride just ask her what colors they want you guys to wear being part of the wedding. You might want to go with some thing close to the wedding party with a twist.

I had this problem too when I went to a wedding. It seems there is so little options or you will upstage the bride. I thought you couldnt wear black but apparantly as long as you dont look like you're going to a funeral you're good. I found out every color is acceptable as long as it's not white. You get brownie points if you wear the same color as the wedding party. Bottom Line red is fine!

I don't think so. It would take a REALLY outrageous dress to upstage the bride. If it's a fairly modest cut and looks nice, wear it. (I live in So. Cal., and people wear red, bright purple, jewel tones, and such to weddings all the time - whether this is true for the rest of the country, I couldn't say...)

My brother's wife dressed her bridal party (me included) in red strapless gowns with red, orange, and yellow tulips and lilies. Even three of us in fire engine red standing right next to her didn't come anywhere close to stealing her thunder -- she looked spectacular and radiant, and we were merely a pretty backdrop.

Yes, red is a color that brings all the attention to you. Wear another color.

Try not to clash with the bridesmaids.

as long as its not super formal where u think people will pay more attention to you than its ok, but if its long and attention seeking dont wear it u dont want the bride to feel overshadowed.

Red is a pretty bold color. I would choose something a little more subdued especially since you will be up front.

Well, if you cut it to a miniskirt and a tank top, it's fine.
