Suppose you've just moved into "New Job City" and besides your immediate family, you don't know anyone at all. You were just settling in when a neighbor stops by to welcome you into the neighborhood. They offer you a card with a little info about them and go on their way. Shortly after, the other neighbors one by one all come by to do the same. Here's what's on the cards:

The Bennets. Family of 4, spends weekends on family outings to the park, bowling alley, movies, and playing sports.

The Klines: Family of 4, spends weekends playing chess and other board games, reading books, and going to museums.

The Coles: Family of 3, spends weekends alternately with neighbors 1 &2, ocasionally reads the bible or goes to church.

The Keatings: Family of 4, spends weekends in preparation for the life thereafter. Studies the bible exclusively, and attends church daily. Does not socialize with other the families.

Which family do you decide to get to know better, and why?

The Coles. By becoming friends with them, I'll have the opportunity to get to know both other families as well, as they socialize with them both. Its a more efficient way of building my social circle.

Although I'm not a church-goer, that doesn't seem to be the center of their lives, as it is with the last family.

do I have to pick just one??

honestly from your descriptions I would probably say the Klines and the Coles. Just cause I am not an outside, sports person. But on movie night I might go with the Bennets. They all seem nice and the keatings were nice by coming to welcome me to the neighborhood. Now I get going to church every day... as a catholic, I have attended daily mass (not every day but sometimes twice a week....) But it's not about being focused on the life thereafter.... I think that would get a little weird after a while.

we should be living while we are here..

Well I hope I would get along well with all of them; I generally make an effort to get along with neighbours.

I think I'd have most in common with the Klines, and the Coles sound very sociable and friendly.

However, it would depend on the individual people - I mean, the Klines could be complete jerks. Just reading and going to museums doesn't mean you are a good or even pleasant person to be around.

I'm with the Klines...and the Bennets.

The Klines: Family of 4, spends weekends playing chess and other board games, reading books, and going to museums.

The Bennets. Family of 4, spends weekends on family outings to the park, bowling alley, movies, and playing sports.

These families are more to my liking because they appear to be focused on secularism rather than spiritualism - that's more my style. They do the things I like to do without doing the things I feel are foolish.

The Bennets.
I am a sports and outdoor person. Not so much bowling unless it's 5 degrees outside and nothing better to do.

I'd go stir crazy with the Klines, Coles, and Keatings.

I'd want to get to know the Bennets and the Klines and the Coles first.

My study of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus indicate that that is what Jesus would do. And also, Jesus has told me to tell others and make disciples, which requires that I get to know lots of people who aren't already disciples of Jesus.

I'd want to get to know the Keatings too, and I'd wonder why they did not socialize with the other families.

I would first go one by one and give THEM a card with our following info:

"Bennets: nice to meet you! just say when and i'll be there with my kids to hang out with you any time!

Klines: Since we are a very hyperactive family, i doubt we can catch up with you frequently on chess, but we would love to go to your house and discuss books or play a little board game every once in a while!

Coles: We'd be glad to see you whenever we have meetings with the Bennets or the Klines.

Keatings: No. Don't even go there."

The Kines or Coles. I am interested in arts and culture, but I often miss speaking with people who are believers. Maybe I could stay with the Klines and hang with the Coles some times.

Good question.

The Bennets or Klines... probably the Bennets... I have moved to a new town before and learned even if you become friends with an extremely Christian family before they know your an Atheist... they will not take it well... *sigh*... just another bad experience...

The Keatings... Keep in mind everybody does something for a reason... There is a reason they do the things that they do and perhaps they may be right about it. I can go bowling anytime but to get true spiritual enlightenment from somebody taht devotes thier life to it may end up being apreiceless thing if your entire eternal fate depends on it.....
