I've been studying and reading everything about the GT500 and 500KR ever since it was produced. Its curb weight is absurd. Does Ford employ engineers? Does Ford have the money to use lighter weight materials? What is the story?

You have to remember that the ford mustang and consiquently the shelby gt 500kr are muscle cars. They are not "super cars" like the farraris, lambos, and vettes. They are made for people that want a tough built solid car with lots of hp. For the people that want a light wieght high hp car that is simular to a race car then those are the type of people that chevy makes its corvette for, ford made its Ford GT super car for, and Farrari and Lambo makes its cars for. The mustang, future camaro, and future dodge challenger though are all 3700+ pound cars that are muscle cars designed after the old school muscle cars which were solid built steel cars that have big hp and tq and look and sound mean and nasty. If Ford wanted to aim for a different group of people they would make the mustang a car made out of carbon fiber, fiberglass and aluminum. Thats not what the mustang is or ever has been though. Judging by the sales of the mustangs, and the fact that its been around for over 40 years, I think Ford is doing OK with there design of the mustang.

Ford unlike others is built Ford tough. Why make everything out of cheap light crap ? The Shelby is fast reguardless of weight. The dork that said its just a Ford doesnt have a clue, especially when im flying past their beloved italian noodle cars. Ever seen a wrecked corvette ? No? Look in a paper shreader basket, its the same thing. Everyone has something degrading to say about every car out their, and I have yet to see matched quality that ford puts out. Its performanced tuned, and hell who needs light weight with the 4 valve per cylindar supercharged 5.4. You can put a big motor in any light weight car and yeah it will be faster, but I would rather have a little more meat just in case. If carol shelby signs it, you can bet its top quality.

The Shelby is nothing more that a Mustang, when you get down to it. Shebly American modifies them to increase the power and handling. Ford has a lot of engineers working for them. The lighter materials, will cost more, and the cars are already high enough. Get one while you can, I doubt if they will keep making them too many more years. Just like the last GT500's and the GT350's

Go Shelby.

Yes. The Shelby GT500KR could be built a lot lighter. They could use some, no a lot of carbon fiber, lighter rims, an all-alumminum engine, carbon ceramic disk brakes. It's a factory produced ford. It isn't a handmade italian sports car.
It's a ford. What can you expect.
