I've curious as to part of the story in Rent. We learn that Mark, Roger, Maureen, Collins and Benny used to live together. If this is true then how was it unknown to Roger, Mark and Collins that Benny and Mimi had been together?? I know it's quite sad that I have read so much into the musical as to even ask this. But if anyone has a reasonable theory please share it.

But in the song "Happy new Year B" benny says "Does your boyfriend know who you last boyfriend was?" Which implies that they WERE in a relationship and that it was simply a fling.

I don't think the "thing" between Mimi and Benny was much more than a fling, so that chances are Benny didn't bring her to the apartment or mention her.. that's just my theory...lol

Benny's quite a secretive person, and Mimi IS a crack addict... so maybe he didn't want to advertise her?
