I am making teriyaki skirt steak for dinner tonight. I really love caramelized onions and am going to make them.. but dont necessarily want to put them on my steak (thats what i always do.) Is their another dish I can make with caramelized onions?

Can anyone think of sides to go with teriyaki skirt steak? I have rice... texas toast... and just other basic ingredients.

Thanks guys!

Add some parmesan to those onion, mix it up and then put it in a little ramekin or mini casserole, top with a slice of mozzerella or more parmesan, bake until bubbly, and you have great little side dish. Add some sauteed mushrooms and it gets better.

There is also a german dish, called zwibelmcuchen (translates to onion pie-I don't think that is the right spelling but that is how it sounds)

Carmelized onion, lots of them, mixed with cheese (a german white cheese) spread out on a baking sheet. Salt and pepper heavily and bake for about 30 minutes on a medium oven. Remove from oven and let cool and set before serving.

If you have a well stocked supermarket, you might want to get some pre made egg rolls and bake them till they're crispy and I'd save the onions for another time that you have steak.......teriyaki is a pretty assertive flavor, I just think that the onions would be overkill......although, I did a teriyaki skirt steak with some Napa cabbage as a base (worked out great!!!) Just chopped the cabbage and put the steak on top of it......interesting combination of textures and flavors.....Enjoy!!!

sauteed mixed veggies are always nice with teriyako dishes
if you have julienned carrots, some green beans onions and beandsprouts, sauteed in sa little butter and garlic, and a little soy sauce, that'll be great.

for the caramelized onions, you can try a filipino-style beef steak.
marinate some steaks (i'd say breakfast steaks) in some soy sauce and lemon juice with a little black pepper for about 15 minutes or so. then heat up a little oil and cook a little minced garlic, pop in your steaks with the marinade and let it cook until tender. serve caramelized onions on top.
the sweetness of the onions will sit nicely with the saltiness and the acidity of the the steaks.

Caramelized Onion Rice
Recipe #1750427 ratings
I wanted a rice recipe that was easy and relatively quick to make brown rice more tasty. This is what I came up with. I've used long-grain brown rice and brown basmati rice for this, but you could also use white rice. Great for any meal you would use rice in.

Melt butter in skillet and sauté onions until softened and lightly browned. Add garlic, sauté 1 minute.
Add brown sugar and sauté until caramelized-looking, 3-4 minutes.
Mix rice, broth and onion mixture and cook in rice cooker.
Note: I like my rice slightly crunchy and not soggy so if you like yours softer add 1/4- 1/2 cup of extra broth.

One of the best onion recipes ever is Friday night onions!

Take Vidalia onions and cut them like you would if making a blooming onion. Put a beef boulion cube inthe middle and a small tab of butter. Wrap up in foil and cool on grill or in oven @ 350 for 20-30 minutes.

Your onions are already carmelized? How about coarsely cutting them and putting them, plus some beef bouillon, into the water in which your rice will cook? Ought to give it great flavor and some color as well. If you like, add some frozen peas to the rice, too, about half-way through cooking, and don't resume timing it until the rice returns to a simmer. That adds veggie-ness and more color.

What time should I arrive for dinner, and is a red wine okay?

Yes, Lyonnaise Potatoes. The onions will be perfect in them and will go great with you steak!

INGREDIENTS

* 2 pounds russet potatoes
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 4 onions, thinly sliced
* 2 tablespoons chopped garlic
* 1/2 cup butter
* salt to taste
* ground white pepper, to taste
* 1 tablespoon finely minced fresh parsley

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2. Peel potatoes and cut into 1/2 inch slices. Place sliced potatoes in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Allow to boil 2 minutes, then drain and set aside.
3. Heat a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Pour in olive oil, then add onions. Saute until lightly caramelized, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in garlic and saute until onions are deep brown and garlic is soft. Transfer mixture to a bowl.
4. Place skillet back on stove over low heat. Melt butter, then cover bottom of pan with 1/3 of potatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Cover potatoes with 1/2 of onion mixture. Cover with 1/2 of remaining potatoes and season with salt and pepper. Spread with the rest of onion mixture. Cover with remaining potatoes, and season with more salt and pepper.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and browned on top. Remove from oven and use a spatula to carefully transfer potatoes to a serving platter. Sprinkle with chopped parsley just before serving.

You could take the rice and add the onions and add some red pepers and mix it together.

Also perogies are great with caramelized onions.

How about homemade French onion soup?
Or make onion gravy to put over mashed potatoes.
