I am considering Joining the Army, but I have a Wife and 3 children and I am wondering just how long I will be away from them. I know that At Graduation I will be able to see them if they come, but my question is, is there any point during AIT that I will get to go home for a week or 2. I have heard many different responses to this, personally being away the whole 5 months is something I can live with but seeing my little ones during would be wonderful. Unlike most men, I would actually miss my wife.

If there is a break between the time your AIT starts and graduation then you might be able to go home but the military is pretty good about scheduling BCT and AIT so that there is none. If your AIT goes on during the Christmas holidays then you might have a break to go home. It would really be better to just focus on getting through BCT and AIT. Five months is a long time but in today's world there is instant communication. Good luck.

Most of the responses are correct. the only break will be between BCT and AIT. and Christmas if you are there during that time. the only time you would get any thing longer than that is if you AIT is 12 months or longer. As some stated your wife can come and visit during a weekend but usually you will have to stay on post for the first couple of weeks. You get more freedom the longer you are there. I know at Ft Leonard Wood the most Engineer AIT's are like that the only ones that are just a little different are the Surveyors and draftsman MOS's because they are longer than most and the combat Engineers because they are the afore mentioned OUST and there is no break between BCT and AIT due to it being one in the same. It all also depends on you and your fellow warriors so stay out of trouble and do the right thing and it will be all over soon.

If you have already passed BCT and are in AIT you have to think about the following. If you fail your AIT training, you will face the possibility of being recycled into another training cycle or being reclaissified into another MOS. This would be at the needs of the Army!

When I was in AIT at Ft. Jackson, SC in the summer of 1991 after the first 4 weeks we got weekend passes and could go off post into Columbia. Your wife and kids could visit you on a weekend if you are able to get a pass. I think it also depends on where you are for AIT. My AIT was only for 8 weeks. After AIT you get to go home for at least 2 weeks though. You'd be surprised at how many Army men miss their wives when they are in training. good luck!

well also depends on what kind of MOS you chose. I had OSUT training which stands for one stop unit training. We didnt even have a basic graduation. Also the differnce from basic to AIT was nothing for us either. Lucky i went during the Christmas season because i got the two weeks for it but if it werent for that we wouldnt have got to see our families until AIT graduation.

When my son went through basic i went to his graduation and seen him for 3 days, then he went off to AIT. but then after AIT he came home, for a few weeks, and then he was home at Christmas, My husband went through what they called Warrior Training Course ( he was prior service and did'nt have to go through basic) but before his AIT he came home, it was during christmas though for exodus.

While he was at AIT i did fly out to see him, he had a 4 day weekend, we had a great time!!!

and yes he really missed me too i guess he's unlike
most men too!!! i guess after being married 21 years we still got it...lol

As far as you being able to fly home, i highly doubt it, let her come see you, have her get a sitter and have a great weekend!!!!

If you are in BCT or AIT during Christmas you get to go home for a two week "Exodus"...but you have to pay for it...it is funny when you get PVTs in a real unit and they ask you about Exodus...now that is funny...

You get a leave between Basic and AIT! During AIT you might get a weekend off, just as you might during Basic!

Actually I would hope that most men would miss their wives!

only if your AIT falls over the Christmas Holiday. then you will get one or two weeks to fly home( on your own dime) to visit.

of course,,,didn't you see that in the LLI manual, ??
it's on page 18, under terms and conditions related to XYY recruits and undergoing JNR training at camp KDD maybe some time brushing up on your SRT skills would bear this out for you before POK training later this year.
