It's certainly true that Jesus claimed to be God, which is one reason the religious leaders were so ticked off at Him, because they didn't believe Him.
A lot of people try to say Jesus was just a good teacher or a moral example, but that's obviously incorrect. As has been said before (by C.S. Lewis, I believe), a man claiming to be God has to either be
1) a liar
2) a lunatic
3) or telling the truth, which means He is our Lord.
A liar or crazy person is neither a good role model nor a good teacher. So either Jesus was a very bad person to so extremely misrepresent Himself, or He is indeed God as He said. But to try to claim a middle ground of "Well, he was a nice person, but not God"--that simply won't wash.
God is one in three: a Trinity of Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. I know our minds go, "Tilt, tilt," at trying to comprehend how some one can be both one and three at the same time.
But if you think about it, it makes sense that God is more than our minds can fully comprehend. He is God, Creator of all that exists; He is omniscient, omnipresent, and eternally alive without beginning or end. Who can completely wrap their minds around these concepts?
Jesus existed as God even before He was born as a human. His birth was predicted in Isaiah 9:6--
"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

John 14: 8-10
8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."
9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

Yes. Check out John 1:
In the beginning [before creation] was the Word [Jesus] and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
...the Word [Jesus] was made flesh.
You're right, the Pharisees ACCUSED Him of blasphemy and ultimately crucified Him for it. Jesus never denied their accusations of being God. His response to accusations was: "You have said it".
He also said: "I and the Father [God] are One".
Finally, the Bible also states: "Three bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit".

That's a start, now here is His reply
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
First the Jews denied their own scripture, but they could not deny the works Jesus did.

You ask, "Is Jesus Christ God?"
Yank answers: Of course not. After two thousand years, if the bones of the man who came to be called Jesus were found, they would be very little left of them. I do not know if to be true, that is to say, an absolute, but it's my feeling that a Jewish preacher of little or no distinction meandered about a small patch of dirt, sand, and filth in the First Century, in what we call the Middle East, and, along with many other Jewish preachers and anti-Roman renegades, preached and billed himself as a 'healer.' The oppressive Roman occupiers executed me, as they did thousands of others who struck them as threating Roman power. And that was pretty much that until a sect made up of illiterate fishermen, the 'disciples, decided to walk quietly and carry a tiny stick in the ongoing resistance to Rome. In about three centuries, their sect emerged as Christianity only because Constantine ached to stay in power as emperor, which he did, ruthlessly. For centuries, Jesus was called the 'son of God,' but, in the hands of the Fundies, he is considered a god. It is all nonsense, of course. There are no gods, there have never been gods, there shall never be gods.
