I have a good friend who was over sea's. I can't seem to find him now and haven't gotten to talk w/ in in some time. I would really like to find out if he's ok, if he ever made it back state side and so forth. So my question is can anyone tell me how to find someone in the Military. Find out there status. Thanks everyone so much.

Yes I do!! The army worldwide locator - 1-317-542-4211. If that doesn't work look up the number to the Army Records Holding Area in St. Louis, MO. The Red Cross only gives out information if you have SSN, Name etc., they won't help you locate friends unfortunately. It's great to see someone concerned about the soldiers overseas, they seem to have been almost forgotten by the press and in day to day life. Kudos to you!!

There are several ways. However, most soldiers are allowed to call home at fairly regular intervals so if he has not contacted you maybe he doesn't want to...Otherwise unless he is in a Ranger unit, SF, or the Seals you should be able to find out by the units family readiness program. They are usually very versed in the location, status, and casualties of the unit they support. The Red Cross is only for emergencies and this does not seem to qualify.

I don't know if this will work. One time when I was in the military I hadn't called home for a while, and My mother called the Red Cross, and I caught hell.

Home land security has things pretty tight. To find someone in the military is almost impossible to find... Better to talk to his parents...

I am engaged to a military man and know many of the guys (and girls) and i have to say if your friend has not been in touch then he probably does not want to continue the friendship. (general concencous from the guys ) He may have a girlfriend/fiance and is happy not to contact old girl friends.

If he had died in combat you would find his name thru one of the press releases or ask his family.

due to OPSEC concerns, no, you won't. there is only one official way, and that is through the American red Cross. to do that, you need to have their full name, Social security number, last known location, Name of unit, be a relative and have a legitimate need. and even then, if it isn't an emergency(death in the family) all they will do is find them and tell them you are looking for them.

Call the local recruiting branch where you live. They should be able to direct you.

Your best bet is to get in touch with his family. Barring that, there's this:

There you go.
