This has been referenced in a book by the Watchtower Society. If you are a Jehovah's Witness I would like to know what the official teaching is on what the "battle in the day of Jehovah" is. Thanks.

The phrase "battle in the day of Jehovah" is used exactly once in the bible, at Ezekiel 13:5:
"You men will certainly not go up into the gaps, neither will you build up a stone wall in behalf of the house of Israel, in order to stand in the battle in the day of Jehovah.”

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the first fulfillment of that prophecy was the execution of God's judgment against rebellious Jerusalem and the land of Judah about 600 BCE.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the bible terms "the day of Jehovah" and "Jehovah's day" correspond with the time period elsewhere describes as "the great tribulation". This "great tribulation" comes toward the end of Jesus' "presence" (or so-called 'second coming') and climaxes at Armageddon.

(Revelation 7:14) These are the ones that come out of the great tribulation

(Matthew 24:3-22) the disciples approached him privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” And in answer Jesus said to them: “...You are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that you are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. ...and because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off. But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. ...then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.

All you non believers, have you check the news today? I think it's still raining in Texas, meanwhile, Peru has had a horrible earthquake. Several hundred were killed at a church...

It is time, all the features spoken of at Mt 24:14 have been fulfilled, including preaching the good news in all the inhabited earth for a witness. The verse ends with, "and then the end will come."

The battle of the Great Day of Jehovah, will be the war to end all wars, and his believers will not lift a finger. It will be done by the heavenly forces.

Below is a quote from a December 1, 2005 Watchtower:
Thus, Armageddon is not to be feared by people who love righteousness. Rather, it provides a basis for hope. The war of Armageddon will cleanse the earth of all corruption and wickedness and open the way for a righteous new system of things under the rule of God’s Messianic Kingdom. (Isaiah 11:4, 5) Instead of being a frightening cataclysmic end, Armageddon will signal a happy beginning for righteous individuals, who will live forever on a paradise earth.—Psalm 37:29.

The "great and illustrious day of Jehovah" in that context is referring to the actual battle of Armageddon.

Joel 2:1 says: "Blow a horn in Zion, O men, and shout a war cry in my holy mountain. Let all the inhabitants of the land get agitated; for the day of Jehovah is coming,

The above-cited verse indicates that "the day of Jehovah" is still coming even during the period of gloom and distress brought about by the onrushing locust-like invasion.

This is the time when Jesus Christ and his angels battle Satan and his demons at Armageddon. The worldly governments will also be destroyed and the earth will have peace for 1000 years. Jehovah God will have His Day.

Praise Jah you people.

I'm not one of Jehovah's Witnesses, but I believe the battle is Armegeddon when he destroys the wicked people on the earth once and for all.

Jehovah will put an end to all of these worldly goverments and his Kindom will rule on earth forever. His Kingdom is already ruling in the heavens with his son Jesus Christ as king. It began ruling 1914. Now we just have to wait for his Kingdom to rule here on Earth which is VERY soon. Wikedness will be no more and we will all be ruled under on happy goverment that Jehovah will establish for us.
This is also referred to as Judegment Day, Armegeddon, or Apocalypis.(spelling might be wrong)

It will be a time of destructive judgment.
It will be a special period of time, not 24 hours, when Jehovah actively manifests himself against his enemies and in behalf of his people. With divine judgment executed against the wicked, Jehovah comes off victorious over his opposers during this “day.” It is also a time of salvation and deliverance for the righteous, the day in which Jehovah himself is highly exalted as the Supreme One. Thus, in a double way it is uniquely and exclusively Jehovah’s great day.

This day is detailed in the Scriptures as a time of battle, a great and fear-inspiring day of darkness and burning anger, a day of fury, distress, anguish, desolation, and alarm. “What, then, will the day of Jehovah mean to you people?” God asked wayward Israel by the mouth of his prophet Amos. This: “It will be darkness, and no light, just as when a man flees because of the lion, and the bear actually meets him; and as when he went into the house and supported his hand against the wall, and the serpent bit him.” (Am 5:18-20) Isaiah was told: “Look! The day of Jehovah itself is coming, cruel both with fury and with burning anger.” (Isa 13:9) “That day is a day of fury, a day of distress and of anguish, a day of storm and of desolation, a day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick gloom.” (Zep 1:15) During such a time of trouble, one’s money is absolutely worthless. “Into the streets they will throw their very silver . . . Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah’s fury.”—Eze 7:19; Zep 1:18.

A sense of urgency is attached to the day of Jehovah by the prophets, who repeatedly warned of its nearness. “The great day of Jehovah is near. It is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much.” (Zep 1:14) “Alas for the day; because the day of Jehovah is near.” “Let all the inhabitants of the land get agitated; for the day of Jehovah is coming, for it is near!”—Joe 1:15; 2:1, 2.

Look! Beyond the Single News Item.
Are They Isolated Events?
Or are They Part of a Global Pattern That Has Real Significance?

Its a Tuesday afternoon, on the Mount of Olives.
Jesus & his apostles are gathered there.
A few weeks earlier, Jesus had spoken about his "presence" during which time "the Son of man is to be revealed" And on an earlier occasion, he told them about "the conclusion of the system of things." So the apostles are very curious.
They ask him, "when will these things be, and what will be the sign of of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?" Its a 3 part Q.
In a lengthy response, Jesus answers all 3 parts of the Q.
He provides a sign that identifies when the Jewish system of things will end; but he provides more.
He also gives a sign that will alert his future disciples
so they can know that they are living during his presence
and near the end of the entire system of things.
Jesus foretells that there will be
"wars and reports of wars."
"Nation will rise against nation," he says,
and there will be food shortages, earthquakes and pestilences.
His disciples will be hated & killed.
False prophets will arise & mislead many.
Lawlessness will increase,
& the love of the greater # will cool off.
At the same time, the good news of God's Kingdom will be preached as a witness to all the nations.
Jesus foretells: "There will be great tribulation such as has not occured since the world's beginning until now, no, nor will occur again."

Confidence During the Last Days:
As the day draws to a close, Jesus continues his conversation w/ his apostles regarding the sign of his presence in Kingdom Power & the end of the system of things. He gives warnings of False Christs,
"The powers of the heavens will be shaken,"
The fear & violence will exceed n/ething in previous human history.
As a result, Jesus says, there will be "anguish of nations, not knowing the way out bc of the roaring sea & its agitation, while men become faint out of fear & expectation of the things coming upon the earth."
Indeeed, this darkest period of human existence will lead up to the time, as Jesus says, "the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, & then the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamenation."
But not all will be lamenting when 'the Son of man comes w/ power' to destroy the wicked system of things.
So that his disciples who would be living during the last days could determine the nearness of the end, Jesus gives this illustration: "Note the fig tree & all the other trees: When they are already in bud, by observing it you know for yourselves that now the summer is near. In this way also, when you see these things occuring, know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I say to you, This generation will by no means pass away until all things occur."

It refers to the battle of Armageddon in Revelation 16:

15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”
16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.[g]
17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!”

Sorry, I'm an ex-Jehovah's Witness.

Even though the battle will take place, true Christians will have already been raptured out of earth.
