His father is dead, and so is "his" race team... Not saying that DEI is dead, just the image that Dale Sr. had when he created the team is dead.

I wish he had waited until the end of the season to announce. He was not competing then but has been running really well lately (bad luck has been his only undoing). His stepmom is very foolish to let NASCAR's most popular driver get away so easily. He might just win the cup at DEI, which would be very special, if he would stay a couple more years. I don't think he will do any better at Hendrick.
But, then again, who wants to work for a *****?

His father would not want Jr to stay with DEI if he wasn't happy. If you're driving for a team that you do not like, you will not give your all and that's not fair to your crew, your sponsors, your fans or to yourself.
DEI was built specifically for Dale Jr when he was ready. Dale Jr is OK, but he could be better. By joining HMS, he will work with one of the best drivers (sorry, you cannot deny Jeff Gordon's stats) and one of the best car owners (again, look at the stats). Jr will have great engines and a great crew next year. I wouldn't expect anything big in 2008, but come 2009, watch out.
I could go on and on, but it's not fair to the person asking.

Dale Sr left that team for his kids...Its a shame that Teresa Earnhardt drove Jr away, shes a awful "B" I glad he left, he will do 100% better away from DEI.. Maybe someday when Teresa re-marries, retires, or croaks, Dale Jr can come back and run the team when he retires from driving at HMS..

Dale Sr. is gone and staying with a team just because your dad once owned it is not good business sense. Dale Jr. has had what? 5 DNF's this year? and may not make the Chase. He was an opportunity to win a championship and to get away from his stepmom. Two good reasons not to stay.

Today's DEI is not the same one Dale left behind.

Thats all water under the bridge now. In case you are WAY behind, Jr has already inked a contract for 5 years and to get out of it would cost him millions of bucks. Get over it. Dads teams or not, next season he will be one of the elite, a Hendrick man.

If Dale had still been in charge you can bet DEI wouldn't have stopped putting money into R&D. Other teams caught and passed them and it shows with their results.

Does anyone really want to have their stepmom as their boss? Its even worse that she seems more interested in merchandise than racing.

Everyone should follow their own ideals not their families. His father had his time, let Jr have his own and his decisions will affect him not his father.

If DEI isn't giving Jr. the best equipment for him to contend with than he should go somewhere that do have better equipment.

I imagine his own dad would have advised him to leave the team. But then again if he could advise him, Dale Jr. probably would not have felt he had to.
