"“The world meat industry produces 18 percent of the world’s greenhouse-gas emissions, more than all transportation produces. A gallon of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream requires electricity guzzling refrigeration, and four gallons of milk produced by cows that simultaneously produce eight gallons of manure and flatulence with eight gallons of methane. The cows do this while consuming lots of grain and hay, which are cultivated by using tractor fuel, chemical fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides, and transported by fuel-consuming trains and trucks.” —George Will

Calm down Sheeple!
It's called IRONY.
It's ironic that Ben and Jerry's have been one of the most vocal companies about touting their dedication to stop GLOBAL WARMING and yet their product is one of the most inefficient and wasteful products that today's consumers can buy.
Sure, ice cream is a luxury and a nice treat to have, but it is so grossly wasteful of our resources that it makes me feel like the evil Chairman of the Board of Exxon Mobil for all the damage that eating just one pint of it does to our environment. After all, B&J's is just a big corporation looking to make profits too. They just like to wrap it up in a cute, 'environmentllay friendly' package. They are just as evil.

I saw a comic strip in my local paper yesterday.
It said:
Q: Did you know that cows produce more greenhouse gases than all your cars, trucks and SUV's combined?
Solution: Eat a cow and cut down on greenhouse gasses.
FWIW, I've never eaten Ben & Jerry Ice Cream and never will. As a life long gun crank, a Life Member of the NRA, and several other gun rights groups, there is no way I will give my money to a company as blatantly anti-Second Amendment as Ben & Jerry. At least not if there is an alternative.

Unless you buy B&J at a B&J store, they have already made their money when their product was purchased by the middleman. So the question is, do you want the local store to suffer a loss because you are on a wild tear about boycotting this or that? (I am not talking about B&J specifically, but any boycott product of the day).
You hit the nail on the head with your question, and I am not surprised to see the mean responses you get from those that do not like to see their ideology upset with common sense.

Cows are going to poop or fart whether we eat ice cream or not. Are you a vegetarian? Ben and Jerry's might be TRYING to make a difference. Manure is good for the earth! Cow farts are natural gas. You might boycot yourself if you drive a car, eat produced foods or flush a toilet.

In that case let's boycott food overall, except homegrown!!
If you really feel like pointing out the amount of pollution that is caused by something as small as Ice cream, I recommend that we boycott driving, swimming, shaving, any kind of processed food, toiletries, and just about any kind of technology!!
Sure they are still and "evil, money hungry, corporation " but they are not the only ones that lie... all companies lie! 7-up tells us about their "natural lemon flavoring", just as much as all kinds of other companies. How many times have you seen a clearly processed product advertising their "new natural flavor" or "reduced/low-fat" or "our new eco-friendly packaging". IT'S ALL BULL**IT!
I say you take it upon yourself to educate those around you instead of wasting your time targeting individual companies (of which there are hundreds of thousands of).
Good luck on your quest, I hope you can help me and many others to get environmental consciousness jump-started!!

no they are not "just as evil" , they don't donate millions of dollars to the denier movement, nor would their corporation be destroyed by increasing nuclear and renewable energy sources.
ExxonMobil is the most environmentaly unfriendly company in the world. Even more than third world companies and Chinese companies. They have not prepared for the transition, so now they are trying to buy time by funding the denier movement. I'll boycott ExxonMobil, and keep eating Ben and Jerry's

What has Ice Cream got to do with global warming as a whole? You have to look at the whole picture.

Why stop at Ben and Jerry's? The same argument holds true for any Ice Cream.

I won't let B&J's ice cream into my home because of the high levels of dioxins found in the product.
The amount of dioxin found in one pint of their tasty toxin ice cream is 2,200 times greater than allowed in industrial waste.
