"Logic" is often given as a reason for one to be atheist.

Logic investigates and classifies the structure of statements and arguments.

"logic" is often used synonomously with "reasoning" in the vernacular. A critical investigation of religous claims shows them to be lacking. I think that's what's generally meant by that.

Most Christians use a double standard. On the one hand they use logic and reason to try to justify why they believe. When you challenge them a little, they end up saying that it's about "faith". Using logic and reason, any open minded person should readily learn that:

1.) Evolution is true, and the bible's creation story is entirely false. Even if it's a metaphor it's still false. One could say Native Indian creation myths are true but also metaphors.

2.) Prayer doesn't work. The largest study ever done showed no effect.

3.) There is no good evidence that we survive death. People try to hang signs over hospital rooms so near death experiencers or out of body experiencers can see them and they never can.

4.) Religions take on the exact same traits as other silly beliefs (bigfoot, aliens, loch ness)- the less and less evidence for them, the more people will believe.

5.) At any given time at least 2/3rds of the human population are atheists in regards to everyone elses religion. This means that either a minority of people are correct about their god while everyone else is wrong, or more likely, every single one of them is wrong.

6.) Which religion you choose is based on where you live about 90% of the time. Not a good thing to base your eternal soul on.

7.) The history of the world reveals again and again the completely laughable absurdity of religion through the ages. It is always on the wrong side of reality. Science and reason have always outdone religion. Religion has offered nothing to improve the world. Science and reason has drastically decreased human suffering and increased well being.

8.) There is no sign of god anywhere. Everything in nature is totally made by darwinian natural selection and it is obvious when you examine it. To believe in the biblical god you would have to believe that an angry wrathful deity completely invested in human affairs who determined outcomes of battles, answers prayers, created miracles on every other street corner- suddenly disappeared and hasn't been heard of since in thousands of years. Much more likely- the miracles are made up. He was never there in the first places.

9.) The more education a person has, the less likely they are to believe in the validity of a holy book or to be religious at all. Of course there are exceptions, but smart Christians cherry pick verses and pretend that half the things Jehovah said and did don't exist.

10.) Anyone can see that most religious believers are ignorant, desperate, immune to facts, and going to believe whatever they want to believe no matter what anyone says.

Logic does not support Atheism.
But here is why people think it does.

Consider Santa Clause.
Believing in Santa Clause makes children behave better.
In fact the description of Santa Clause has been tailored for this effect.
Logic will tell you there is no Santa Clause.

Does logic tell you there are no great humanitarians? No.

Logic will tell you that Religious descriptions of God are tailored so believing in God makes you behave better.

Does logic tell you there is no God?

Not really, it just says the Religious descriptions of God are not accurate.

Nobody knows what’s out there in the universe. Evolution virtually guarantees the existence of one or many higher powers.

Most Atheists are really Agnostics.

They don’t absolutely believe there’s no God,
they just don’t buy the red suit and reindeer.

Examining the logic and reasoning behind religious texts and other God-supporting arguments often leads to the discovery of fallacies, nonsense, and incorrect logic.

Atheism isn't some thing it particularly is discovered on the hours of darkness or in a stunning flash. to realize rationality is a developmental technique that has to conquer the mindless programming that has been shoved at you with the aid of fact that young ones. i'm surprised that i began asking the the superb option questions whilst i replaced into 11 and much extra surprised that i replaced into waiting to take the "with the aid of fact" solutions of religion with a jaundiced eye at this sort of youthful age. nevertheless it took 3 extra years earlier I observed as myself an agnostic and 3 not easy years extra earlier being to call myself an Atheist. satisfied approximately it? on occasion I envy delusionalists who think of they are going to finally end up in some cosmic Disneyland whilst they die, rather of the void on non-existence, yet in the tip, i'm satisfied i don't stay in the delusional haze that looks to maintain them anesthetized to fact.
