I'm wondering what industry I should try to get my foot into. I recently became a single mom to an 8 month old. I need to work full time, but I have no real experience, nor do I have a college degree.

I've had experience with web design, Photoshop, and other things internet-related. I have also done more than a few years in the "fast food" industry (which I am NOT going back to). I've been a housekeeper for a resort management company. But I'm getting laid off at the end of the summer season, and I need full-time work that pays more than minimum wage!!

I don't even know where to begin to look for jobs, I am working on a resume, no matter how small... Right now, it looks like I'm going to have to strip or something to make above minimum wage (eeuuww).

Any suggestions, for how to find a GOOD job, with little or no experience besides what I've listed??

All answers are appreciated.

Ok, I am waiting on my mother to pick my son up so I can go out job hunting today.

And I left my baby's father because he was an abusive alcoholic.

I am NOT moving in with my family, to mooch off them while I sit on my *** and take care of my baby. I am going out to work and become a productive member of society.

And it would be great if I could get into school, but that requires having some kind of income.

This is my advice:

I would RECOMMEND that you seek public assistance (yes, welfare), and use that to pay for your living expenses while you get a 4-year college degree.

Why? Because that is what welfare is designed for...to help people that want to help themselves...and that is what you seem to want to do. Once you get your degree and a good job...you won't ever need it again.

The truth is, without an education, or real job experience, you can't get a high paying job in today's market unless you know someone or are extremely lucky.

The best thing you can do for you and your baby, is get a 4-year degree from a university. Otherwise, you have a very long and difficult road ahead of you. Even if you get a good job, you are very unlikely to advance much without an education.

I am a taxpayer, and I would GLADLY have my tax dollars to go to support someone like you.

Good luck!

Okay, I didn't even bother reading the answers above me, so please excuse if I repeat myself.

First, get the money from the sperm donor (ie the father), he needs to still pay you money, this should cover the basics.

Working a minimum wage job is horrible, so I don't suggest you start anywhere retail (which you will most likely get a min wage job). Why don't you work with your previous experience and mind some children in your home. You have 8 months experience here, save daycare costs, gives your bub a full-time plat mate that she will learn from (specially if the child is a few months older than her), keeps you at home with her which is important if you are breastfeeding, lets you work the hours you want, and also get some digital work done while they nap (and if you have a laptop, while they play, of course while watching them).

I'm telling you this because I don't have a college ed. and have never worked a part-time or minimum wage job, and am treated with respect as a full-time nanny. I find my job rewarded and fun. Start with one extra child and charge....$50 a day, this is minimum wage (actually less) but it adds up quick, and you can add on extra children.

What are your passions in life? Follow those for the most rewarding job, it might be low paying at first, but worth it in the end. My passion is children, hence my love for my 'job'.

Best wishes, and ignore anyone that gives you sh*t.

There is always a company looking for phone interviewers. All you do is ask questions...Never sell. Those jobs pay above minimum and you get to choose your own hours. You usually have to work at least one sat. out of the month, but you get to choose that also. Look them up in your area if interested because you get hired fast!! Then, i would suggest part time schooling if you have someone to help out with the baby, because you will really want to keep a job your more into in the end! Good luck and congrats with the baby!

Ok, you have a child and stripping would be the dumbest thing you could do. Would you be proud to tell your child, yea i used to strip for drunk preverts to buy you diapers, no you dont want to go there. Not knocking anyone for it, but its not something i suggest. Yea see you need more education, that is definitely something very important cause its hard when you have minimal experience and little education when finding a job. Try to find something in retail maybe or go to a temp agency and they can get you job and most of them pay better than going straight to the employer yourself. You should try to enroll in night school, take college courses for something you feel you would be interested in, trust me you can do it. I have 2 kids, im 27, and im a single mom. I went to college and got my assoicates in fashion marketing management. Now i work full time but Im back in school at night for medical. Look into goverment help, there are so many possiblities out there for you!!!!

I raised three kids cleaning houses with my best friend! Not only did we make great money, but we had the freedom you need when you have children! You've already got experience and good honest housekeepers are hard to find! Call the other companies and find out how much they charge, then under bid them. Word of mouth will get you more business than you can handle if you do a real good job! Best wishes!

SALES!!!

Why? Because if you can smile and say hi you can do it. also with a decent personality and a little bit of determination you can make a lot of money very easily. Also most places will hire with minimal experiance. the biggest plus is if you get an outside sale job you will have a very flexible schedule to take care of your child. As a single father I stay in sales so I can pick my kids up early and go to all thier school stuff. Very cool. But you have to work hard at getting sales, self motivation is key.

Good luck!!

Laura seems to offer the best advice.
I guess you need to work. So try as she says.
Also scan for jobs on Yahoo and other sites.
Apply.
Find something / anything , that will give you more time at home. Or may require work from home.
Build up an account, then when your son grows a bit, get educated.

It is all a vicious circle. Just get out of that circle.
Wish you the best.

Rite aid and home depot are hiring nation wide as well as dunkin donuts. You can get a night time position depending where you're located because most of these stores are open till midnight or 24hrs. You can also approach a day care center and let them know you will work for minimum wage if your child can attend the day care while you work. Also there are a lot of marketing you can do at home but it's not quick money and like anything else you have to work it. Find one that come natural to you. I'd suggest your local unemployment office. They can make some suggestions. You maybe eligible for training for a job.

Good luck and I hope you don't have to compromiser any of your standards to make a living.
