Its really not a trick question....

Here is what you do:

1. Draw your weapon, hold at low ready
2. Seek Cover
3. Point weapon at the suspect
4. Yell "Police Officer, Put the gun down Now!"
5. Keep yelling verbal commands until the suspect complies.
6. Use deadly force to protect the innocent person or yourself
7. Hand cuff the suspect if complies or you have to shoot them

That's about it.

Depends on the situation.......

1. Are you on-duty or off-duty?
2, Who is the bad guy? How do you know?
3. Are there other bad guys around that you don't see?
4. Do you have communications available?
5. Is backup on the way? How far away?
6. Do you have cover/concealment available?
7. Are you armed? With what?
8. Do you have anyone else with you?
9. What is the area you're in - rural, urban, bank, outdoors, indoors, etc...?
10. Are you in uniform? Plainclothes? Swimsuit?

Too many variables to list - you need to know the entire situation as EVERY scenario is different.

Don't assume that the person holding the gun is the 'bad guy'. It may very well be a citizen defending himself. You need to get control of the situation, ensure no one gets shot by ANYONE (even by you) if possible, and then sort out what the hell was happening.

i would say that I have not yet been trained in handling a life or death situation and my current knowledge I think it would be more prudent to mind my own business. I would think any police officers first duty to diffuse the situation first without shooting or getting anybody shot.

Mr Nice Guy said it all already. Really, they make you pass a test of basic academic skills including grammar.

Well, hopefully it's a verbal test cause your writing skills stink. Seriously, how can you hope to get a job with so much written communication if your communication skills are so atrocious?
