And are we today still peasants despite our education, since we still allow the religious establishment to scare us into listening to the clergy. (Isn't the biggest joke of all, that the clergy claim the Bible was written or inspired by God, so that they can fasten their hold on our lives.???)

yea, you are right on. Can you think of any better way to have a large amount of people submit to your rules and laws then by telling them that if they dont do x, y and z that they are gonna burn in hell for all eternity?

I don't consider myself a peasant because I don't allow myself to be scared by clergy preaching at me and telling me that I am a bad person and I need to ask some supreme being for forgiveness for enjoying myself.

Let me be clear on this.... I hear it ALL THE TIME that MAN took this or that liberty with the content and/or wording of the Bible. WOMEN say it about all the supposedly sexist content. Atheists say it about ... well, things like the word sin. It's okay that you believe that. It's okay. I disagree with you, but would never try to forcibly change your mind. Here's the thing....

In reading Gary Wills book, Lincoln At Gettysburg, we see that Lincoln both brilliantly AND truthfully put two sacred beliefs before the American people. He pitted them against one another:

1. Their love of slavery AND
2. Their love of the Constitution

He shined a light on the words, "We hold these truths to be self evident that ALL MEN are created equal." He said in effect, you can have your slavery OR you can have your Constitution, but each is to the exclusion of the other.

As I said, it is both true AND brilliant!

Equally true AND brilliant, C.S. Lewis said that Jesus Christ was EITHER a

1. Liar
2. A lunatic
3. or He was in fact Lord

MANY religions recognize Jesus as "a great man," "an important man," "a prophet," etc. Lewis said in effect: Don't patronize me! And more importantly, don't lie to yourself! Confront your beliefs about Jesus. He SAID that He was Lord. YOU say that He is not! That forces you into either option one, your "great man" and "prophet" was a liar. OR option two, your "great man" and "prophet" was a lunatic. My atheistic brother-in-law said: "I admire Jesus for His morality." WHAT?!?!?! He SAID He is Lord. YOU SAY that He's ... again, either lying or a stark raving lunatic; yet, you find that you admire Him? Huh?

I now use a similar tactic on everyone who says stuff was added to, omitted from, or appreciably altered in the Bible. I'm saying that EVERYONE who believes in God believes that He is omnipotent; i.e., ALL POWERFUL. IF the Bible is as we are told God's word AND God breathed then ...

1. How could lowly men have slipped their own spins on the Bible past God?

2. How could a TRULY all powerful God let THIS BOOK, the so-called HOLY Bible, the alleged God-breathed book of His people, be tainted by man's dirty influences?

I say to you that you cannot have it both ways! Just as you cannot embrace slavery AND believe in the Constitution, just as you cannot "admire" Jesus AND believe that He is not Lord, you CANNOT believe that God is God--i.e., ALL POWERFUL--AND believe that God allowed man to taint HIS word. So, put forth your conspiracy theories about the Bible, if you will. Just understand the full implications of what you are saying.

You are in fact an atheist. You are in fact denying God. You cannot have it both ways. So, why bother attacking this verse or that in the Bible? Just come right out with your atheistic best shots. To thyself be true.

Of course. Hell and sin are the tools they use to control the masses. Effective 2000 years ago, effective today.

"Burning in Hell for your sins" is a concept that was introduced in the "new testament"...it is NOT found in the "Old Testament" and more importantly, it is NOT found in Torah.

God is the One who told us that we are sinful.....

And yes....ALL of Scripture is 100% God-breathed and inspired.

The truth hurts, doesn't it?
