Excellent questions. I've noticed the same thing myself. Some have already shown that they have close to ZERO actual Biblical Knowledge after having boasted that they "know the Bible better than you Christians".
There's no doubt in my mind that in a fair real-time debate, I'd crush any atheist or muslim here in a test of Bible Knowledge.

I not only read it but I studied it in depth. The more I read, the less I believed. The Bible is one of the best arguments against Christianity. Honestly, take a good look at it. Don't read it with "the guidance of the Holy Spirit." Just read it and ask yourself how can you reconcile the concept of "God" within the context of just the Bible. It really can't be done unless you are lying to yourself. More atheists are familiar with the Bible than Christians. This is according to a recent Pew study.

There are some religious people who know next to nothing about their religion. There are also some religious people who know a great deal about it. The same goes for atheists. Some of them are well educated and some are not.
I suspect, as in most things, knowledge of religion within any group is distributed over a bell shaped curve.
Don't hold your breath waiting. I actually had an opposite experience recently. Someone who claimed to be a sunday school teacher asked me for a couple arguments straight from a real live atheist that he could discuss with his class. I sent in four emails on four topics and the guy never said a word to me after that.
Go figure.

Congratulations for living your life in an archaic, ancient book! You are not the majority. I've been in this section for a year, and I can guarantee you that there have been tons of Bible ignorant Christians on here that don't even apologize for it. One actually posted a question asking why people got upset because she let people think for her and that she saw nothing wrong with it...that it was her free will and choice to do so. I'm sure that atheist man did not say ALL Christians and I'm sure he can't be bothered Bible Bashing through email with you for you to prove your point that you are a scholar.

His statement was obviously a generalization. You can't refute his statement anecdotally. In other words, just because you're a Christian and have studied the Bible (even more than he has) doesn't mean his statement is false. You would have to demonstrate that, in general, your average self-professed Christian knows more about the Bible than does your average atheist.

Who cares? Debates solve nothing. So you're a 'christian'. And that means ... ? what ... ? It means only that you subscribe to a particular belief system and ideological structure by which you live your life. So ... ? That makes you different from every other person who does exactly the same thing but with a different operational set of beliefs in WHAT way ... ? Get over yourself.

Don't even waste your time thinking about him. People love to "stir the pot" when there are others around but turn into complete cowards when challenged alone. They like to put others down for their faith (or lack of) to make themselves look big. Especially when they are anonymous and don't know what they are talking about. Call them on it and they will cower in a corner. Don't bother with them.

He may simply decide that there is no point wasting his time on trying to teach a "christian". It would be a cop out...but he could justify ignoring you with it. Seen it often.

What is this Yahoo Validation? or Yahoo Opinions? I think he either doesn't feel you're worth the time, or he doesn't have the arguments to back up his ad hominem. How do we know? When I become psychic I'll send you an email.
