I have researched pet foods a lot. Both the brands you named are great as you know. Following is my answer for pet food questions. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. "Vet approved" means they have a vet on staff to approve their product. In other words, someone paid to approve it. Same with foods most vets recommend. Salesmen "gift" vets then the vet recommends the food. Most vets are not nutritionalists! Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. I understand the expense dilemma. I've had two goldens and now have a chocolate lab.I 've found that the extra $ is well worth it. Human grade, lamb and rice was great for my goldens and was recommended since some goldies are allergy prone.
I'm not a pet nutritionist, but I buy from someone who is very knowledgeable and sells only high grade, natural pet foods. He says both canidae and innova are good choices. Whether there's a large breed formula or not shouldn't matter, as long as the first ingredients aren't corn meal or gluten or some other filler, cereal crap that canines don't need.
I feed my lab Nature's Logic and she's doing beautifully (lamb, rice formula) after having started on Science Diet (crap)as a pup . Her trainer and other's have commented on how beautiful her coat is....and although I'm biased, I've never seen a shinier chocolate coat than my lab's.People compliment her everytime I walk her.
Stay away from BEET PULP in any of the foods. This was constipating my golden and making her strain to poop and have dry poops.(sorry to be gross) . Precise was the brand that started using it and I had to stop using what was otherwise a great food.Hope this helps.

Feeding your puppy a good quality puppy food will be fine.

The ratio of Calcium to Phosphorous is the same for both foods. There is a point where you can worry too much.

Just my 2 cents. Dogs are scavengers and can adjust, even as puppies, to a wide range of food stuffs in various proportions. Goldens are a large but not a giant breed and do not suffer as readily from growing pains.

You don't need a large breed formula. Either one of these foods is perfectly fine for your Golden.
Many people like Canidae All Life Stages.
I don't have Goldens but I do have Danes (a GSP & Labs) and I use Canidae.

I personally would recommend Innova...it's a great food. Iam's isn't that great because it has this in it:

Chicken by-product meal consists of the dry, ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, and intestines -- exclusive of feathers except in such amounts as might occur unavoidably in good processing practices.

I would go w/ the Innova even though it is expensive. You want him to be healthy right? I don't know much about Canidae except that it does have a lot of ingredients that aren't necessary for your dog to have. Check out this website: www.naturapet.com. They have a great pet food comparison tool that gives you all of the ingredients and tells you what they are and the benefits of each ingredient...or it will tell you what it not so beneficial. Good luck w/ your pup!!
