is scam beware is 2ND time Ive received such a check if u check out ward petroleum they are real check is real but stolen when u call they will say deposit it in your bank and then wire them the money....then large check will arrive now don think you will be ahead if u just deposit the 3 thousand n not wire money catch if you deposit it when check is reported you will be reported for check fraud and be responsible legally and financially...these people know this loophole ..this scam is there way of turning dirty money into clean money at your expense.....there is no such thing as a random drawing sweepstakes or lottery,if you didn't enter its a scam....report the and turn the check over to the proper authorities to save the innocent people who believe this and wire the money to these crooks it could be your grandmother on social security and could loose every thing trying to pay back the debt ..stay safe...angel

Sounds extremely fishy. If you call the number and they want personal info like a bank account number, or want money to send you your "prize", you'll know it's a scam. In the meantime, I wouldn't cash the check, just leave it sit until you sort out what's going on. It does sound like it's probably some sort of scam. Do you have an account with that company? If not, it's about 99.99% chance it's a scam.

Scam!
Did you play this sweepstakes? You can't win something you didn't play.
No legitimate sweepstakes/lottery is going to send you a check for taxes. Nor do they notify winners by e-mail, most likely it would be sent certified mail.
Do not cash the check either. If you do, you'll be liable for the whole $3900 plus any other bank fees for the bad check.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

They will tell you to deposit the check and wire them the $3900. After you do that, you'll find out that the check is a fake. They have your $3900, you have -$3900 and you'll also probably have bank penalties for depositing a bad check.

It's a scam.

The check will bounce but only after you wire the money out leaving you in hole by the $3900.
