I would say anything past 5 years would not be beneficial to the mother or the puppies. An older female will still be fertile, however they become less regular and their fertility is harder to predict. You have to remember that the stress of pregnancy, whelp and rearing pups are better suited for a younger female.
Many kennels will not even register puppies born to a female older than 7 years.

I never breed a female past 6, usually not past 5. My vet agrees with me that this is best. No dog should be bred every cycle like puppymillers do. A female should have no more than 3 or 4 litters total. I know this so called "reputable breeder" at least in her own mind that has a 7 yr old that has been bred every heat since she was 1 yr old and is still being bred. She also has a female that has had 3 or 4 c-sections in a row and has been bred again. Dogs are not puppy macjines. The health of the female should come before anything else.

They should be neutered before 6 mths old. If you are a breeder you should not let them have more than one litter. There are too many puppies in the world and it is sooooooo bad for your dog to have litter after litter of puppies. Its abuse, plain and simple. Dogs can get pregnant all their life, but dogs life span is significantly decreased when they are used as breeders. Only breeders will tell you differently because they are trying to justify what they are doing is ok. No veterinarian will tell you that breeding is good for an animal.

I'm not sure I think they can still keep having puppies, but what I would do is get the dog fixed and that will stop having puppies and also help with cancer later in life.

Because you never really know, the only way to be sure she will stop having puppies is by spaying your dog.

Many dogs never live long enough to go through menapause. Especially if they have pups every heat cycle.
Getting her spayed is the only way to stop her from having puppies.

Most dogs are not breeding quality, and should never have pups. I suggest spaying now to prevent deadly diseases like pyometra, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer. It will alos reduce the risk of mammary cancer. No dog, regardless of quality, should have more than three litters. Females will remain fertile well into their teens if not spayed. This does NOT mean they should be bred.

I have seen ten year olds have puppies. But it isn't good for them. If you want to stop the dog then get her spayed. If you want a dog to breed then get one under 7-8.
Most dogs actually drop their fertility rate after about age 6-8. They are most fertile in younger years.
