People's answers to your questions can lose validity if you can't read a few of their other answers to get a better idea of where that person is coming from.

Those ppl make me wonder if they are really curious, or just messing around on the internet asking dumb questions and giving dumb answers.
What are ppl ashamed about if your asking serious questions?

I tend not to answer similar questions as people are fully capable of using the search bar so I see no need for others to see what I've asked or answered. I keep my contact info & Q&A private not because I stir up problems, but because others usually give me trouble over stupid things. I don't want stupid people clogging my email with their lame rants nor do I want them stalking every question I answer or ask when I avoid questions that would illicit such a response. I'm here to help people with their problems, not to get an earful from some cranky stranger.

I do it because I have someone who is flippin obsessed with me and stalks me online. Even on YA! Besides, it doesn't hurt to have a little privacy. And the reason I don't let people IM me is because I don't use it. Don't want them to think I am being rude by never answering them. And the email... well I get an average of 200 junk emails a day on my yahoo mail so I don't use it.

It doesn't really bother me. I used to think they were hiding something too, but then I had to put my profile on private for a while because I got a stalker...they were actually following me and disagreeing with all my answers on every question I answered! They named me and everything, it was bizarre! Anyway, they got booted off after a while, so I switched it back, but no, it doesn't really bother me at all.

The internet is a place that is forever. I put mine on private, so that I am able to be truthful and candidwith questions and answers rather than sensoring myself "just in case" someone ever gets my password or user name than anything said can be used against me. So it is a way to keep yourself safe.

I used to agree with you until I had a psycho following me around and reporting me for no reason. Then I set to private. Once you have problems with stalkers and unfounded violations, you will set yours to private too.

I don't care so much about that but I find it strange that people aren't willing to be emailed. You never see what their email address is and have no way of tracking it, so why worry? I especially hate it when the people who block their email addresses are the ones who seek to enfuriate the most. They're willing to spew their crap in the forum, but can't handle a follow-up email to challenge their statements. It's ridiculous and cowardly if you ask me.

I've kept mine available for now. If I ever have problems, I suppose I would have to protect my privacy.
