Hell is a topic often raised here.
If you read my answers you know my view on hell.
I do not want answers if hell is real or not.
What I am interested in knowing is do you think hell is a draw card to a church or a put off .
Yes or no will do but if you want too explain I would be interested.
Please no god is real or not. Just your view on churches that say follow or burn

It is a very effective... erm... incentive.
Many religions have used a two-pronged attack to ensure compliance:
1) Please your god(s) with offerings of a physical or spiritual nature and you will be rewarded.
2) Displease him/them and you will experience hardship.
This approach has been extremely effective for thousands of years and it works best when both ultimatums are used.
Fortunately, more and more people are seeing the flaws inherent to this system.

a religious institution that says follow and burn is the real hell on earth. My home is the Temple of Ibrahim and DOnna and we are a multicular sahphadric place of free worship where people donate to their own families and communicate by blog and potential converts are connented to through yahoo answers... music is at the computer owners discreation and no child abuse of anny sort is tolerates more is abuse of women in any fashion. If we know u well maybe if your in the neighborhood you get a formal invite for dinner and discusion services bring any religious book and others u like... well discuss all in view of fact, logic, reason and history given all perspectives. Praise to Eternal Knowing.... Much Love Donna

I find few churches that use "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" approach. Most focus on the love of God. Those that do focus on hell tend to be churches that focus merely on the emotional response of their members rather than also dealing with their intellectual and other needs.

Very few people actually will go to Hell or Outer Darkness. Only those that have a perfect knowledge of God and Christ and still deny him will go to Outer Darkness. Remember that if people try to scare you into going to Church. Church is for our spiritual growth and it is your choice if you want to go or not. You have your free agency and nobody can take that away.

When someone asks a question such as this I think of a Christian, German concentration camp guard at Auschwitz in 1944. He has a loving family who he takes to church every Sunday without fail. On this day, he is leading a family of Jews to their deaths in the gas chamber. Here's where things get confusing for me. According to the bible, all the German guard must do is accept Jesus as his savior and the son of god and ask for forgiveness of this terrible sin of multiple murders of innocent victims, and he will dwell in heaven forever when he dies after living a long and fruitful life. The innocent Jewish family, however, because they don't believe just as the German does, after having their lives cut miserably short and not allowed to bring up children have, grandchildren and enjoy the other niceties of life like the German will enjoy, will burn in hell for eternity. That's just sick man.

i would say it is a put off- at least for me it was. when i was 14 i decided not only could not i believe the BS anymore - I didnt want to be part of any organization that would send me to hell for not being in church every sunday (catholics since moved that sin from mortal to venial). I'm guessing then since they did that it really WAS a big put off otherwise they wouldnt have changed

I'm sorry not sure if I understand your question, If I add too much I am sorry. Christ made it clear that hell was a place where the fire never ends. So I belive there is a hell complete with fire. If I do not believe what Christ Said, I cant claim to be a Christian.

Amazing how people say "God is love so hell can't exist". God is love, that's why Jesus, who is God, died for our sins and rose again, so we wouldn't have to go to hell if we believe that.
Any "gospel" that deletes the truth of hell, is not the true Gospel, doesn't save (because what would it "save" from?), and isn't the offense that Paul said the Gospel is.
Watered-down "churches" that are afraid to mention hell based upon not wanting to "offend" people, aren't telling the whole story, and aren't saving anyone.

Well, I think often we tend to associate one person's particular views with that of an entire religious denomination. One pope, bishop, priest, preacher, rabbi, ect. cannot speak for an entire religion. It behooves you to do your own research into what various religions really teach, before deciding where the truth resides. People are human, only God is divine.

Yes it is a put off because people don't want to know that they have to atone for what they have done wrong in their lives, I know I have preached on hell and people have walked out, and when I see them latter they tell me that there is no hell and they don't want to hear about it.
