Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Ah we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to, A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind,
and we can dance or sing

Ah we can go when we want to the night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
and surprise 'em with the victory cry

I Say we can act if want to if we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And i can act like an imbecile
I say we can dance, we can dance everything out control
We can dance, we can dance we're doing it in multiple
We can dance, we can dance everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance everybody takin' the chance

Oh well the safety dance
Ah yes the safety dance

We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it, never gonna lose it
Everything'll work out right

Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're are no friends of mine
I say we can dance, we can dance everything out of control
We can dance, we can dance we're doing it wall to wall
We can dance, we can dance everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance everybody's takin' the chance
Oh Well the safety dance
ah yes the safety dance
Oh well the safety dance
Oh well the safety dance
Oh yes the safety dance
Oh the safety dance yeah
Oh it's the safety dance
It's the safety dance
Well it's the safety dance

Most of the groups claiming that the Bible forbids dancing have to overlook or twist a number of passages that actually encourage dancing.

Like any other activity, dancing can be either good or bad, depending on the intent of the people involved.

Dancing can be deliberately intended to glorify God and express joy in being part of creation. That's good.

Dancing can be a way of simply enjoying the presence of another person. Also good.

Dancing can be a way of finding joy and pleasure in taking care of your own body. Still good.

Yes, dancing as it is occasionally done today can be part of seduction, where the purpose is to encourage another to discard their own morality, and can also be done in situations where the dancer is not considered to be a person, with dignity and worth, but simply an object of lust. Those would qualify as bad.

Not bad because of the dancing, but bad because in both cases, the dancer is reduced from being a worthwhile individual to being a mere object.

Your question puzzles me. Why would you think there's only one accepted view of the Bible? I mean, to the Christians there's usually only one view per denomination, but almost every single religion thinks its got the only right answer. Let me tell you something, when theres a group of people, and everyone thinks they are right and everyone else is wrong there can be only two possible outcomes. Either one of them really is right, or they're all wrong. You mention the occult, but you don't seem to realize that plenty of practices deemed 'occult' use the Bible just as much as organized Christianity. Go google gnosticism or kaballah. Organized religion is just what it sounds like. Sounds like there might be unorganized religion out there too, right? You don't have to belong to a church to be a Christian. Being a Christian isn't about getting together once a week to compare clothes. There's plenty of wisdom in The Bible. Lots of people believe in it metaphorically. There's plenty of people that don't believe for example, that a snake was literally talking to Eve. Use whatever interpretation you want. If you belong to a group, just make sure you agree with them. If your interpretation makes you a better person, then who can judge it?

well I read the New Jerusalem Bible and there are many occasions where it says that people "danced for joy".So no I dont belive the bible forbids dancing HOWEVER if you are speaking about MTV female bum jiggling and lambada style dancing well I dont think thats quite on the same level. As a christian I am disgusted by the MTV music video type of rubbish its offence to me both as a christian and as a woman because it puts women down.

No, it isn't forbidden in the Bible.

Since John the Baptist's head was once payment for a dance, some have interpreted that as an indication that dancing leads to sin.

I like Neitzche's take on it: "I could not belive in a God who couldn't dance. And when I met my devil, he was the spirit of gravity, pulling everything down."

No.....it does not.

I always refer back to David's victory dance in 1 Samuel......
I dance with my wife all the time......and we are Baptists.

I will admit though, there are some forms of dance out there that are just not pleasing to God......in fact, they're downright straight from the pit of hell.

No, it doesn't, there is a passage in Psalms that says to praise the Lord with music and dancing.

I grew up being told dancing was a sin, that the only non-sinful dancing was movement in the spirit.

I have since left those friends behind. :)

No, but it does forbid sensuality--which should give us a hint as to what kinds of dancing are sinful.

If dancing would be a sin I would be a non-sinner because I can't dance.
