In the past I worked in very hot and dry conditions, and would often get the same kind of sore throat you are talking about.
You need to take in as much fluids as possible, if you let your sinuses dry up it will only make things worse. The extra fluids will also help ease the pain in the throat and have it heal faster. You need to get the phlegm moving, phlegm will take any infection away from the nose and throat.
Cold flat ginger ale, drink it by the liter. I usually go for a few bottles of Goya Ginger Beer (a non-alcoholic beverage) but let me warn you the first swallow will sting, the ginger is very intense. After the first swallow it's soothing.
After that warn chicken broth or miso soup. If the pain eases up and you can swallow almost normally then have plenty of dry toast.

Go to the doctor! What are you waiting for? You need to know whether it is a viral infection or not. If it is a virus, chances are the doc will give you a prescription and you'll feel better in a day or two. Also, if it is a virus, it won't clear up on its own and you'll just be miserable the longer you wait to go to the doctor office. If it isn't, then you'll need to wait it out. Drinking hot drinks and soups helps wonders. Keep some hot tea with you at all times and sip whenever you're throat starts feeling scratchy and dry. Don't play around with your health.

The best thing I've found is gargling with warm salt water. If you do it 3 times a day, you'll notice that night it starts to feel better. Do it the next day, too, and it's gone. It tastes awful, but it really works. 1 cup warm water with 1 teaspoon salt stirred in.

When I have a sore throat salt water never works for me because it makes me feel like I have to vomit, and tea never helps. It makes my throat hurt worse. I use Tylenol Cold & Flu medicine. Make sure it is night-time and it says sore throat on the front because all of them don't say it.

you need to see a doctor to make sure you don't have a strep infection.
Other than that, sipping cold fluids will reduce inflammation.
