From what I've researched, bipolar people feel very intense emotions and say things as such. If they say they love you or that you are beautiful... how much truth may be in that? Is it real at all -- or is it just the extremeness of the illness? Curious...

If you know someone who is mentally ill, you need to be cautious about what they tell you. They mean what they say but it might not mean the same thing.

It depends on the severity of the bipolar. I was diagnosed with it and mean everything I say. Most people with bipolar go through period of episodes, such as being very depressed and sad or always rushing, spending money and such. These moods are pretty much noticible by others. This is treatable with medication. I have often said things I didn't mean but they were during my rages or missing someone when feeling lonely. Someone with bipolar can be completely normal and if they say they love someone or think they are beautiful, then it is probably true.

Bipolar disorder is a mental imbalance that can cause mild to extreme mood swings, much like a pregnant woman. They can be in a normal mood one moment, then depressed the next.
I'm bipolar but no one would ever guess. One minute I feel normal, then the next I feel slightly depressed for no real reason. It's not severe enough for me to need medication though. When it happens I just run on the treadmill or watch Scrubs or something. >.>

They might 'love' you, or they might not. It depends on how messed up they are. If one second their chasing their *** ends like an idiot, and the next their eating a child....avoid them.

And it's actually called manic-depressive disorder.

It depends on the person and whether or not they are taking their meds. I knew someone once who refused meds...there was a lot of FABRICATION that came from her, but she TRULY believed what she was saying! Unfortunately it wasn't as simple as telling someone they were pretty or that they loved them...her fabrications actually hurt those around her deeply and left scars that will never go away. Bi-Polar disorder is so very complicated and varies by person...but the one common denominator is that it needs to be controlled...one way or another...professionally.

If they are in the throes of mania then it may be them feeding into their own heightened experience.

If you are in a relationship with someone who suffers from Bipolar Disorder, you may be trying to find out if he truly loves you.

I recommend you go to a website that offers support for loved ones of BP suffers. http://www.bpso.org/

Good luck!

If you have a friend who is bipolar you're best to leave it as a friendship.

Your friend needs to work out their problems. And, if they really do love you and not just lust after you, they will understand and wait till they have solved all their issues.

A relationship is difficult enough without complicating your life with mental health problems.
