Regardless what you believe. Do you study it? Do you know how it was founded? Really? Have you yourself done the research, or do you just believe what others in your group tell you what your religion is? My point is I see people claim a religion they really don't understand. You can tell it by their answers here. I.E. A man claiming to be a satanist said that satanist did not worship Satan. And others claim a religion they don't even follow, or they pick and choose what they like. So again Do you know your religion?

Even Athiesim is a religion. They religiously and catagorically believe that there is no God.

Hogie, I believe life is a journey. There may or not be a destination. Every day I learn something and with that New information I adjust. When you stop accepting input you have closed your mind to the journey and are just along for the ride.

about Satanism; Even though the satanic bible was really just a ploy to make money. The foundational belief was satan worship. There are sects they broke off and decided not to. But that's the point they are not "really" Satanist from a foundation stand point.

Academic study of the history and development of various religions, including my own, is actually a passion of mine - and one I think all religious people should undertake.
It helps clear the air about all the man-made dogmas, and shows where ideas were just that - ideas, and helps tease out the spirit behind all the debtes and political struggles and everything else. Teachings that are suppressed are very often the ones that people really need to look at, because they were suppressed for a reason - usually because it made it inconvenient for a particular organization to take and maintain power.
Learning where religions are really just machinations of human political entities is very important. Then you can look at the gnostic experiences of mystics, and see where the spirit of the tradition really lies, and how the individual experience of each person is what is truly important. Not believing the way that someone else wants you too.
When you get down to it, the core of all spiritual teachings is Love and Compassion. When anything else or anything contrary is present, you can gaurentee that it was put there as a control-mechanism.
And there are different kinds of Satanists, and many use Satan as a symbol and ideal, not as a figure to worship. Although there are theistic Satanists as well. So the guy telling you that Satanists don't worship Satan was right - many Satanists don't. I supposed he could have been more specific about what tradition of Satanism he was coming from, and that would have helped clear the air.

Actually, I've done a lot of research into many, many religions.
(...and from this, I know that some Satanist sects actually do not worship or believe in Satan. The guy that told you that apparently knows more about Satanism than you do).

i didnt start "really understanding" it til high school, cuz i had to study about islam then at school. Before that i'd just do as my parents said. I dont listen to what ppl of my group tell me blindly, i've acually got some books. I recently read one. It was good to read all the factual evidence, its nice to sleep when ur confident of what u believe in. But i admit, there is lots still for me to learn, regarding certain rules n stuff. Thats why if im not sure abt an answer, i dnt answer it til i research.

Religious followers don't really learn. They simply believe what they are told, by parents, teachers, priests etc. If any of them studied a religion seriously I think they would be in for a big shock as most religions are based on biggotry and bloodshed.

Everyone should investigate their religion. You can't tell if the Book of Mormon or Quran is true or false by reading it, and the bible works the same way. Things are not true simply because they say they are. Extensive investigation into origins and history is the key to understanding who your really are, and what you really believe.

I've studied my religion some. I know where it came from and how it started, but I'd like to know more. I'm catholic, so I'd really like to study all of the crazy and stupid stuff that the catholic church has done over the past 2000 years.

My religion is my lifestyle. I attend on Sundays and have family study once a week. We read scriptures and pray together as a family daily. We study Church History as well. And we do our best to practice what we preach. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. But I earnestly try to live my religion.

Interesting that you would proceed from a faulty premise.
I was in a "group" for many years, and discovered they were wrong on many issues. I left the group, and studied on my own, and discovered what the Bible had to teach on various topics.
So I do indeed "know my religion" which is just a matter of knowing what I believe and why I believe it.
So..... how about you? What do you believe, and why?

Yes. Part of growing up Catholic is learning about the history of the Church. Later I learned how lots of protestant religions got started too.
