If you are talking about memory (RAM) the windows operating system uses an area on the Hard Drive as memory (Virtual Memory). This means if you have 1 GB of actual RAM but you have applications loaded which use 1.5 GB RAM the CPU will be performing a function called file swapping. It moves portions of what is currently being accessed into RAM and dormant portions of applications will be moved to Virtually Memory on your Hard Drive.
As the previous anserer stated; are you confusing RAM (Random Access Memory) with files stored on the Hard Drive. The amount of space available to store files on the Hard Drive is dependent upon the physical size of the Hard Drive.
Memory and Storage space are two different things.
If you have more than 1 GB of files stored on your Hard Drive, and only 1GB of RAM (memory); but your Hard DRive has 20 GB of free space everything is OK.
The memory helps your computer to run more efficiently. The amount of space the files stored on the Hard Drive do not affect the memory unless your Hard Drive free space is very low and then it will slow down your computer due to low virtual memory.
If this happens, usually your hard Drive will be running almost constantly and you will likely receive an out of memory or low virtual memory warning.
Hope this is not too confusing and it helps.
Good Luck

The 1gb of memory you are talking about is not the kind of memory that stores data. It is used to run programs such as Internet Explorer, Photoshop, Messenger etc...
The memory used to store data such as saved files, pictures, video's and music are stored in the Hard Drive or HD. Usually todays computers come with at least a 20gb hard drive.
The last time computers had 1gb of storage memory was around 12 years ago. I remember having a mac with only 800mb hard drive.

Do mean more than 1 GB worth of files on your computer? If thats the case, then the two are not related. The memory, in general, is related to the space given for the CPU to process information. That information being the docs, pics, executables, etc stored on your hard drive.

This sounds like a confusion between RAM and storage. For a discussion of memory and storage, and how they're different, see the link below.
If there's no misunderstanding then you're likely describing virtual memory.

Sorry, your question doesn't make any sense. Memory = RAM, and 1GB is fairly typical. Are you referring to hard drive space? If so, exactly what are you asking about it?

No procuring memory purely facilitates you to shop extra issues on your pc, case in point a computer activity. What makes your pc quicker is the processor, in an attempt to velocity it up i could purchase a quicker processor.

are you thinking of hard drive space? memory doesn't "store" anything your HDD does. memory is used to open / run apps
