birds imitate what they hear in their surroundings... so if you want the bird to learn "hello" for example, just say it to him often.

i have parrots and every time my telephone rings, one of them says HELLO?...... another parrot will say "what ya doing" every time he hears a package of crackers or something which crinkles... because he relates the sound and those particular words to getting an occasional cracker.

another thing one of my parrots did was -- every time i called one of my kids, the parrot would say a loud "Whaaaat?" because that is what my kids always said...

they repeat things by association.... and what they hear frequently.

some birds never talk much or at all... others won't shut up LOL.

you might search on line for TRAINING AFRICAN GREY TO TALK -- you may find resources for further information.

take care.

repeatition... it takes time at first, you can leave the tv on or the radio on when you aren't there.... but i have found that just repeating things works well. also, if you sound loud or excited, the parrot will get excited and want to talk too.
