When you first bring a bird home it is very typical for it to stay in one place...you have to think, it's just been taken from its environment and placed somewhere totally new. It probably is scared. The best thing to do is leave it alone for the first 2-3 days (just give it food and water), and then gradually start going up to the cage and start talking to it. Then you can start taking it out.

Just have patience!

well remember this is all so new to your bird. hes away from all the others and isint used to the surroundings. Give him a few days to himself. Im going to assume that ware u bought him the birds went on perches so itll take him a few trying to learn how to keep him balance and climb the wire of the cage. also your bird is depressed at the moment there is no other birds, getting one or two more is highly suggested because there will be times when you wont be there for your bird and heel be alone. another thing is to make sure he has plenty of toys and treats to keep him occupied, with out toys and other birds your bird will become emotionally stressed. but for the perch problem anyway, hes just not used to the surroundings so dont handle him the first few days. times like these are very stressfull for birds.

He could be in shock or just scared. I would take out the perch for a while, maybe just lay a stick on the bottom of the cage. Is he in a cold area? that will kill him. If he is move him to a warm, not hot area of the house. I would also try covering his cage off and on thruogh out the day to let him adjust to his cage and the outside noise without being fightened by seeing all the new stuff to take in.

...I'm understanding "he's" got a good cage... all the "stuff: he needs... try placing a "small" mirror on the side of the cage, next to where he sits... make sure he can "see" himself... that will quickly become his "bird buddy" and get him very excited about life... go slow and he'll come around (with his new "bird-buddy"...

your parakeet is probably feeling a little lost right now? he will probably acclamate himself in a few days.

if you are worried about him eating or drinking, you can purchase small containers cheaply at the pet store to use temporarily.. maybe he will wander over to them while he's in his "safe" spot? worth a try -- you can remove them later, after he's comfey with his new home.

i found a website for you which has tons of links to info about parakeets. i hope it's helpful.

these little guys make wonderful pets... i'm sure he will come around in time...

yes he is he will be fine please don't make loud noises or pick at him..let him get to trust his surroundings....no loud music or loud t.v. or nosy children...he will begin to liven up in about 3-4 days maybe a bit longer.....he's fine just a bit unsure...
