We just got this cat one month ago and unfortunately we had to go out of town shortly after we adopted him. My mom house sat for me and fed him and our other female cat. He is an indoor outdoor but my mom would not let him out during our trip so he peed all over the house. I didn't hold it against him because I thought he was upset because no one would let him out and he was in a new environment. Well since we have returned this guy pees everytime he gets mad at anything at all. Last night his food bowl was empty (during the middle of the night) and he decided he was going to pee on our bed with my husband and I in it. My other cat and him get along really well and I hate to get rid of him but I can't keep up the cleaning. Does anyone have any advice on how to stop this behavior? Please help, thank you!

Get him neutered if you haven't already.
If you have, I would be concerned that it's behavioral problem that could be associated with a medical illness. Cats can get mental disorders just like humans

Is the cat neutered? This should help if its not.. hopefully though at 9 years of age it is..
Cats tend to do this to mark their territory..
Also if you have more than one cat in the home, sometimes you have to have more than one litter box as some are not willing to share..
I have an indoor/outdoor cat too (a female) she goes out but if left alone she will use the litter box and share it..
but I think males are a little different there..
Its a bad habit yes, but if you are willing to work at it, this behavior can be broken.. get some good sprays that repel cats but are not harmful to them and after cleaning up the place they peed really well, use it on that spot so they don't do it again.. have the vet check him out also.. Good Luck!!

It sounds as if it could be behavioral. However, be sure to check with your vet to make sure there's not a urinary tract infection or any other problems with the cat's kidneys. You could try a product called Feliway. (Do a google search if interested.) It comes in a spray and also a plug in for the room and helps to calm. "Continuously treats the air supply of the entire room to give your cat a sense of well-being. Excellent for pets with problems of spraying, vertical scratching, or reduced desire to interact. Odorless and non-toxic. Not a drug or tranquilizer."
I hope that helps. I used to have a cat that would urinate on the floor all the time! I never really did find out the reason. At one point the vet wanted to put her on kitty prozac and I declined. She eventually became sick with congestive heart failure, so I don't know if it may have been an underlying issue or not.

If you spray where he is peeing with vinegar solution, he shouldn't return to that spot. I would still have him checked by the vet in case as he is getting on a little and it could be a Urinary problem.. If you don't already have a litter tray get one and if you do maybe he doesn't like the brand of litter you are using??? If you are able to catch him in the act use a squirty water bottle as punishment. There is also the old fashioned method of rubbing his nose in it..... Just not too hard.

do you have a litter tray? does he know how to use it? i think kitty is trying to tell you something is wrong. you need to get rid of the smell completely or he'll carry on, also try different types of litter as he may not like the feel on his feet, maybe get him checked by a vet for urinary tract infections!
hope you get it sorted! it was very kind of you to take on an older cat and give him a safe home to live out his years in

do you have a cat litter box in the house? maybe get one.

crate the cat when you can't watch him and at night.

you could also have the vet check for a urinary tract infection if it continues, but this does sound like a behavioral problem.

take care.

Sometimes cats will pee to mark their territory. It makes no difference if they are boy or girl . A new cat might be trying to set his boundary's with the other cat and peeing in your bed makes it his place. I have had some success in stoping the behaviour by being very alert and catching them in the act. Lots of no no no and odour eliminator. And one of my girls still surprises me and the microwave.
