My husband is physically very strong, but emotionally even stronger. He does not fight back when somebody calls him names, he does not talk badly about them, and if I slip up and say something wrong he reminds me that to forgive is better and getting angry is pointless. What do you think about men who are emotionally strong? Especially based on this?

"“The strong man is not the one who can wrestle another to the ground; the strong man is the one who can control himself when he is angry.” (Reported by Ahmad, 2/236. The hadeeth is agreed upon).

The more angry a person gets, the more highly valued is his self-control. The Prophet (SAW) said:

“The real strong man is the one who gets intensely angry, so that his face reddens and his hair stands on end, but he suppresses his anger.” (Reported by Imaam Ahmad, 5/367; classed as hasan in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3859).

The Prophet (SAW) used an incident that took place in front of his Sahabah as an opportunity to reinforce this lesson. Anas (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) passed by some people who were wrestling, and asked, “What is this?” They told him, “So-and-so is a strong man. No one challenges him but he beats them at wrestling.” The Prophet (SAW) said,

“Shall I not tell you who is stronger than him? A man who is mistreated by another, but suppresses his anger, has defeated his own shaytan and the shaytan of the one who mistreated him.” (Reported by al-Bazzaar. Ibn Hajar said that its isnaad is hasan. Al-Fath, 10/519)."

I would most defiantly rather have an emotionally strong man than one is is physically strong; if I had to choose between the two. Some one who is emotionally strong can handle more and is more of a support in times of crisis. Emotional strength helps a marriage and is the product of having good self-esteem and a healthy spirit.

Both. These are simply two different types of strong that are unrelated. He could also have a strong bladder that allowed him to hold his urine in for a very long time. Or maybe a strong desire to eat cheescake.

All different TYPES of strong.

And which do I think is better? That really depends on the day. Sometimes it's good to have a strong man on your side when your in danger and some times it's important to have an emotionally controlled man with you when you need love and compassion.

Every situation is different, There is a time to fight or argue back, and there is a time to just be quiet and walk away. You gotta pick your battles you fight when necessary but not just for something little. I always give somebody 1 or 2 chances but if they keep it up I will smash them depending on the situation. I agree with your statement to a point. I have been in martial arts for a while and I know when I can fight without going to jail and how many buttons can be pushed.

Anyone can develop physical strength through execise and nutrition, but it takes a very special kind of strength to be able to control your reactions to things. Most people aren't that introspective, and introspection takes a willingness to face the more dark and/or frightening aspects of oneself. To me, that is true strength.

A gorilla has physical strength. Men who act like gorillas are not real men. They are little boys in men's bodies. Real men are emotionally and intellectually strong, not just physically.

Anger is from devil, controlling his anger is defeating devil. i admire this Hadith, like the single the place the prophet asked : who's the bankrupt? and he advised the companions that the bbankrupt is the single that is accessible in the day of judgment with mountains of sturdy deeds (Prayers, fasting, charity,.....) yet he insulted this one and oppressed that one, lied to this one (meaning of the hadith)...the angels will take from his sturdy deeds and supply it to the oppressed ones till all his sturdy deeds are long gone. Then the angels will take the the undesirable deeds of the oppressed and supply them to this guy till he get mountains of undesirable deeds, then the angels will take him from his ft and drag him on his face to the hell fireplace. that's the bankrupt one. those form of hadiths make you think of that the solutions could be that the stable guy is ts the single with muscular tissues, and the bankrupt one is the single that lost all his wealth, however the solutions are completely clever and basic to stick to our minds.

It sounds like you pretty much have your husband whipped.

So when the muslims flew into the world trade center, do you think they did it with self control?
